** Need HELP with my FOX RLT100 Not getting full 4" Travel. **

Need Advise about a RLT 100mm Fork.

It’s light and functions I must admit. But when the FOX mentions 4 inches of travel when its fully opened I really need it. I’m only getting 80mm (3inches) This really bugs me. How can I get this to work properly???

Riders Stats: 5-9” 178lbs

Air Pressure is adjusted properly. Even went a little less than Fox suggested from the manual at 85psi. ( 170-185 ) This was providing me with less travel so I went 70psi. Still stuck at 80mm.

Rebound is just about at it’s fullest the way I like it. I did play around and checked it out both ways. When it’s spongy it’s sagging and providing less.

SAG less than 1/16th “ I’m not sure if I need to allow more sag or not? ”

As I look at maybe this is all I’m going to get out of it. If true I need to upgrade it.


Let me know if you have any tips or experienced this and correct the problem.

Take all the air out and cycle the fork. Do you get the full 100mm?

I've completed this twice this past week. When releasing all the air I added a little pressure pushing down on the bars lightly. Then pumped it back to the suggested pressure.

I wasn't suggesting that as a fix. I was just wondering if you get full travel cycling the fork without air in it. Knowing this may help out in troubleshooting whether it's the air chamber issue or maybe the internal bottom out bumper (if Fox even uses one).

I have this fork, but never had this problem. Never really worked on it either to be honest with you. I'd like to know what the fix is as well.

my thoughts

If there is 4 inches showing on the sliders, but it bottoms out hard before you compress it 4 inches, then the oil was overfilled, and you are getting hydraulic lock out. The solution is an oil change.

How easy is it to spill out some of this Fox oil? And which leg has the most of the fluids? I think both side required it but one side was at least 130cc. And the other just a little bit. The fork was rebuilt about 3 weeks ago. Pal of mine replaced the wipers and oil. We followed all the guidelines from the Fox manual how many CC's to add.

I'm really hoping I could release the air pressure and than loosen one of the bottom bolts at the bottom of the fork. Leak out some oil and add the air and take it from there. Repeat these steps till the full travel is truly there.

Use this link for instructions and fluid capacities. Do it correctly (not dripping a little out the bottom). You paid a lot of money for the fork. I have to assume you want it work at it's best. By memory, you only need a 26mm socket, 10mm wrench graduated syringe and a rubber mallet to service the fork.

I switched from one of those to a Vanilla R 140mm Coil..... now THAT is plush! No air, no fuss......just dial and ride!

It is good, reliable and plush. It's also made here in CA from what I understand.

 

Ann has one on her Juli and it's be very reliable. Light, plush, and low maintenance. The lockout/threshold feature has never failed. She blew the seals earlier this year and that was after 3 years of use.
