I wish I had access to The Path's take off room. I would be happy for weeks :)

vise grips , my bet is its threaded..if its not, you can cut that one flush and drill it out big enough to tap it for a threaded boss

I'm 90% sure that those are threaded, we sell Trek at our shop and I'm pretty sure we have had to replace those before. We use an easy out.

Have you tried to contact Trek? Perhaps they can warranty it.

I emailed them, but they offered nothing. Trek just replied that it was welded on and that I need to get a new fork. I don't think that person knew anything, and trying to get a warranty replacement would be more hassle than it's worth. I want to keep the fork because it's already color-matched to the frame. Eatsrice is going to try and extract that post for me, so I'll update everyone. If that doesn't work, I'm just going to do what RustyIron suggested and get a longer, grade 8 bolt, which should hold just fine. Thanks.

That's exactly what I meant to say. Usually Trek is real good with their warranties.

Well, tonight I went to see Kevin (eatsrice91) to try and remove the broken post. He quickly determined that the post and boss is a single piece, not threaded. So I thought I would just have to make do with the long bolt and somehow try to find a perfectly sized cylinder spacer to snug things up, but Kevin came up with an ingenious solution. He can probably explain it better, but I'll give it a shot. He took a spare brake post and sawed off the base, leaving just the narrower threaded tube. After some quick filing to make things smooth and straight, he screwed this homemade threaded spacer into a stronger, long bolt that fit the boss on the fork. By perfectly positioning the spacer on the bolt, as he screwed it through the brake arm and into the boss (with some loctite), the spacer now fit flush against the boss and locked down as he tightened it. So now the sawed off post is right where it's supposed to be, supporting the brake. I have no doubt this will hold well.

Mad props to Kevin for the creative way he tackled my problem and huge thanks for helping a fellow rider who he barely knew. Gracias to everyone else for the great tips and suggestions.

You nailed the description perfectly. I'm just glad everything worked out in your favor! The key here was determining it was a solid piece before trying to remove it then working on the solution. In the end, it felt every bit as sturdy as the other side. Glad I could help bro.

My phone was dead or I would have taken a few shots... I suppose if by popular demand I may be able to recreate the repair. Who's got a fork I can use? Ha ha
