Well, there are many things that went wrong there.

#1. None of those guys should have been sprinting for a minor placing. 20th or so. This is a group ride, not an actual race.

#2. None of those guys should have crossed the yellow line. This has been a continuing problem, constant complaints about safety, with none of the guys who cross the yellow line willing to stop doing it. It's not a deserted road or anything, and cars have been known to try to pass the riders there or come in the opposite direction from a driveway or cross street.

#3. Jeff knew of the yellow line issue. While technically he should have been ok to rest here after his lead out, being just out of the lane, he would have known there were idiots who like to cross the yellow line, so he contributed to this.

#4. Mondo, the rider in green, pushed Steve over the yellow because he didn't want to follow the other riders over the yellow line and Mondo wanted to get through to them. Mondo then continued to sprint with his head down. He would have had a clear view of Jeff, the slow rider, based upon tracking the position of all the riders in the video. Mondo looks up just in time to avoid Jeff, but not giving enough time for Steve to see and avoid him. Notice you also can't hear any warning on the video such as "rider up".

#5. Steve, and all the riders who beared the brunt of this should stay further away from the agressive guys who do stupid stuff. Steve thought he was far back enough, but the ride was slow then, so those guys thought they had a chance in the sprint and went for it when they should not have. Never again.

So, that's where fault lies, as I see it after a few days. Enjoy the video though! Steve is back out there already. It was R.I.C.E. for his left ankle for 3 days. He says he's going to do the ride again on Sunday, but stay further back at that point.

Spoken like one who knows riding/racing-not just one factor contributes to most crashes, there is always a learning experience involved for all.

Happy to hear that Steve is back out there. Riding in a pack can be a tad intimidating after a crash like that, but it sounds like you have a good crew of guys out there.

I have nothing to say but....ouch! I know the feeling of finding a rider in your crosshairs. That's where my nickname came from.....NIMZERO! Only happened once to me and NEVER again....knock on wooddddd.
