maybe brian and I should pace each other. i've been known to eat a more than a few thousand calories on a ride like this.

Right now I've got a standard double with a 'bastardized' 12-28. i managed it on our two training rides but who knows. by the time the miles start to approach 70 or 80............ ouch

Figuring this will be at least an 8 hour ride I will try to consume around 2,000 calories during the ride. That should leave me with a deficit of about 4,400 for the ride. That a lot of beer! :drunk:

I'm starting at 7 with a 39x27. Not too worried if I have to bail because I have a touch of a cold and my last long ride was 2 weeks ago, 80 miles and 4500 feet of climbing!
WOOOO!!! That's some heavy training for sure!!!:bang:
I do have some friends I'm starting with but who knows how long that will last!
    Lets all keep in touch!!

Sounds like fun... hmm, looks like I have to decide by today :-k... think a half dozen 4-mile rides on my new-to-me-road-bike two months ago.... is enough? :?:

I wanted to start earlier at 6:30 also but a friend told me they won't let you start in the dark. You have to have lights. Better confirm that info.
Also, Las Virgines was freezing at 7 a.m. so I plan on stuffing my jersey with newspaper as insulation that I can toss later on.

    Per the Mulholland Challenge website.

    Twilight
Twilight begins 5:59am; Twilight ends 19:57. Sunrise is 6:15: Sunset is 19:31.

I will be bringing my lights just in case but hope they will not be needed.

    newspaper

We've all seen the pro's grab a magazine or newspaper before a long descent but will it really help when pedaling on the flats? I normally wear a lot more than other riders and plan to bundle up but with the amount of climbing later in the day, don't want to risk overheating in a l/s wool jersey. Is newspaper/magazine the way to go?

I'll be starting at the crack of dawn, so when you pass, just give me a push. I'll be going home to some of those chicken stuffed jalapenos with bacon, by Mr. pepper/bacon man. That was too much fun at Hurkey Creek last weekend. Hopefully I'll see you on Saturday!

Guess it'll have to be next year.....anyone got a spot and not going? Can it be transfered? I would love a chance at getting the KOM jersey.

Have lots of "fun" everyone! It is a beautiful place to ride! Don't forget to tape or band aid your nips....oh and don't forget your chamios butter.

    Gonna be an epic day!

Just FYI the Navy seem to think that sunrise won't happen until 630.

    http://aa.usno.navy.mil/data/docs/RS_OneDay.php
    Begin civil twilight 6:03 a.m.
    Sunrise 6:28 a.m.
    Sun transit 12:55 p.m.
    Sunset 7:23 p.m.
    End civil twilight 7:49 p.m.

... and Stunt is at mile 87??? Good Lord that sounds painful.

    Good luck everyone :)

You didn't see the email registration? Yesterday was the deadline for it. I think if you email them and basicly beg bloody murder, they......... might say yes.

That's funny, I was going to just wear a vest. Can't quite stuff it, but better than sweating and having a newspaper wraping on your body.

They're saying they will probably reroute at the top of Stunt where there's some construction going on. I wonder what the reroute will be? We were there recently and rode through the dirt section with no problem, it's very short and flat. I wish we could just ride through. Of course if the reroute eliminates the Piuma climb and makes the course a little easier I wouldn't complain. Anyone know the area well enough to guess what the reroute might end up being?

I guessed up Stunt and then left on Saddlepeak.
Down Fernwood and up Old Topanga again to Mulholland and back that way on the Mulholland rollers.

    Also up and down Stunt.

OR!! Up Stunt, left on Saddlepeak to Tuna cyn. Down that to PCH. Turn right, go to Latigo, climb that then go right on Kanan and go down that to Mulholland and turn right and then take that back to Stunt and go up and down that three times and then go to a bar and drink! :?:
Frankly, you'd think they'd have it figured out by now!

No....... But then again, your might feel great after having done the ride, but your legs might be the ones screaming bloody murder, or just say F-YOU very much:lol:. Hey that's why we make them happy again with a cold beer afterwards!
