I'm in for the Mulholland. I'd like to do KOM but I'm camping in Bishop during the Heartbreak Hundred.

    I'll try emailing them.

Yes, I am a woman. And, yes, I saw last year's results and really liked how many of the women were over 50, like 30% or so.

O.K. We all will have to start looking at dates to ride this ride. I'll check with my crew. And the weather gods.

I learned from reading Born to Run that women are keenly adept to excelling in endurance and ultra endurance events. In fact the longer the distance the better women are.

When does registration close? I was told about this the other day, and while the guy who reminded me about this event was under the influence of a couple beers, this whole KOM thing seems doable and fun, but I don't want to pay for something still that far away.

I think I registered at the event this year. This one doesn't sell out but Breathless Agony does and Heartbreak might as well.

I registed for this one at the event as well. I'd like to do some training rides with people that are training for this one.

Just registered. Not sure why I'm actually looking forward to suffering 100+ miles and 12,500+ feet of climbing, but I am.

See you all there! Please do post if we do an STR pre-ride.

Why don't we pick a weekend and do half of it one day and half of it the next? That way if someone wants to do the whole ride either day they could fit it in and if some want to make it more of a fun ride, they can divide it up. I think that's what Stacy did last year.

We could do it the last weekend of January? The first weekend of February? Any other dates?

Either would work for me. I did this ride last year, it was pretty hard. I know there are some killer sections with long climbs. I'm down to ride the course. I would like to do some rides out that way anyhow.

Availability of water will be an issue. Stashing some water at a turn out/intersection would be wise. Some pre-planning will need to be done to figure out the best place(s). Liz will be on of the best resouces to help figure out stash places, as she knoew the area well.

Another thought is not to worry about doing the exact route but link up the big climbs across one or more rides. This way when you get to something like Decker you know what you are up against.

There's water out there. I know lots of faucets! ;)
But also, if you are going to ride the whole thing, why pay 65 dollars? :?:
Pay me 50 and I'll lead you on the whole route!
There's water, food, Starbucks. The important thing is to build a base and then begin to add climbs in.
If you can do 85 miles and 9500 feet of climbing, you can, in theory, do the whole ride.
I'll be happy to lead some training rides averaging 55,65 and up to 85 miles. We can hit all the hills that are in the MC at some point.
I can also make suggestions on where to park in Malibu if I can't go and try to give you some route info.
For me though, as long as I can get in the climbing ascent, I don't need to do the same hills on the course. Matter of fact, I think I'll send you all up Decker and I'll wait at the Starbucks down below!
Once is enough on that pig! Right Madame Dabalot? ;)

Of all the events my choice would be the Heartbreak 100. The roads and scenery are unmatched. Cerro Noroeste is a lot more fun climb than Mt. Pinos (road and traffic) but we're stuck.

    (big pic -upload worked!)

Looking back at Apache Saddle. You can see the rolling road at least three times and the cut on the mountain going to Cerro Noroeste.

I want to ride it NOW! d*** snow.

Yeah, I agree with Doug. Heartbreak has the best scenery out of all the rides that are for the KOM. Still I think Breathless is the most difficult. But if it's on the warm side Mulholland can be tougher. I think I have a fairly good base at this time but I'm not getting anywhere on my climbing. I need these training rides.

O.K., so someone design a few rides (or find them on Geoladders) that include some of the hill climbs (and cafes with viewing areas down below) and throw them up on the board. We'll pick a few rides, pick a few dates, and then we'll go have fun. Whaddaya say?

I'm going to go get my crew involved right now.

I just did my first road ride since May this past Sunday. I did 60 miles 1400 ft, pretty flat ride. I need to get in a few more local rides first.

Teri - Whenever you're ready Lois would be happy to join you on a few laps of the 7 Sisters. Do Stacy's pyramid idea and you'll be ready in no time.
