MTB Rider Dies in Palm Springs Heat - Johnnie Lee Memorial Ride 6/2/12 (merged)

Thanks for the picture Dino. I'll be there to say my final good-bye's to Johnny with the rest of you.

 

I took a look at the memorial fund website and it is great to see the support from local shops like Jenson, The Path and Fullerton Bikes!!!

It's great to also see the support from Giant, Ibis Cycles and T-Mobile with their raffle contributions. Looking forward to riding with everybody next week!

 

Would there be any interest in the STR community in re-naming the trails above the Vons in Johnny Lee's memory??? We all know that lots of trails get named by word-of-mouth......specifically I was thinking of un-officially renaming the Goat Trails in his memory.....I would much rather ride the "Johnny Lee" trails instead of the "Goat" trails.....

All the other trails up there already have official names, but I'm fairly certain the name "Goat" trails is un-official...

 

I was at the funeral and it was very humbling. On the memorial book I inscribed on behalf of STR and GravityPirates, God Bless your family. There was really good pics on the video they made for him.

 

We should put up a cross in memory of him up cardiac hill next to the one we did for crash Collins! That would be touching...

 

Great idea. I will see if we can line that up for Saturday. I like the idea of renaming the trail too.

Thank you for your continued prayers and support for Johnny's family. I spoke to Johnny's older brother last week, and he relayed to me that Janice is still very fragile, but the kids are getting better. He also wanted to me to let everyone know how much your support has meant to everyone, as they cope with this tragic event and the loss of Johnny.

I know Johnny's family will be at the memorial ride. Joshua, Caleb, and some members of Johnny's family plan on riding with us !


Looking forward to seeing everyone at the ride.

With the Johnny Lee Memorial Ride coming up this Saturday, I wanted to take another moment to thank everyone for their support and generosity. I also wanted to point out several folks for donating their resources so that we can have a raffle at the ride.

Just wanted to update everyone with the following...

Johnny Lee Memorial ride is 9am this Saturday at the Fullerton Courthouse Parking Lot

I can't make the ride, because I have to work Saturdays. I do work in the area, so I think I might make the beginning, to pay my respects to a fellow rider.

 

I didn't know Johnny, but after reading all the great posts about him I wish I had the chance to ride with him. He sounds like a great guy. My heart goes out to his family and friends.

 

A reporter from a local newspaper Korea Times called me and is publishing an article on our ride, as well as Johnny's Memorial Fund website. His accident is so tragic and just strikes a chord with so many of us.

Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers.

Be careful and keep each other safe when we are out riding.

Hello Everyone,

I wanted to update everyone on the status of the www.johnnyleefund.bbnow.org since it's inception following the loss of Johnny Lee.

We have collected aprox $6500.00 to help offset the cost of the funeral, and to help establish savings for Joshua and Caleb. Thank you to everyone for your generosity and thoughtfulness.

Johnny's family wanted me to relay to everyone here on STR how thankful they are of all the support and prayers. It is still extremely hard for them to fully understand and accept that this happened. Knowing that we are all there supporting them with our thoughts helps with this difficult time.

I am looking forward to our Memorial Ride this Saturday. It will be a good way for us to honor Johnny, show support for his family, and for us as a group to say good bye to a good man.

I WILL be there! Any ballpark idea on how many people you are expecting? I will be in a big black F150 riding a black carbon Nomad...Its going to be kinda difficult to meet members!
