My plan is to start at the Wood Canyon parking lot at 630 or 700, take the Aliso Creek Trail to Santiago Canyon, take that to Imperial Highway, then take Imperial Highway to Carbon Canyon, then head over to Mt Baldy, climb to the ski lifts, descend GMR, and take Huntington to Union Station.

    Google Maps Link

    ~8880 ft of overall ascent
    ~125 miles

If there is ever any doubt as to whether or not a road is open the county's website has that information.

There is no way to tell when they're going to close it. Rode up Friday (1pm) and got turned around. He (the city worker) said it was off and on depending on dirt slides. Apparently a road biker went down, motorcycle too, and a Ferrari hit a wall or embankment, all last week.

No takers? I'd rather not go it alone, but if I have to I will.

If anything hop a train from Bake and Alton and save some gas for the drive home:?: that way if you get diverted in bonk city you can still detour to Tustin Hills or Hop a bus From the Brea Mall. Day's are a little short and the weather can get nasty.

However you grown so long as there is wind in your sails good luck with the voyage:wave:, I'll stay in dry dock this time.

Not to jump on the guy that said to check the website or anything, but the conditions change so fast that there's just no way for them to keep the site updated.

I was there on Wednesday and ran into a rider at the base of the hill. He told me the road was dirty on the 2nd half, so obviously he was able to make it up there. Just a few minutes later I saw another rider making her way back down, and she said they were turning riders back a little ways up the road. I was a little bummed but I'll still take GMR (even if it's just a 5 mile section like on Wed) any day that it's closed to car traffic. \\:D/

If Mr. Wile E Coyote thought it was safe enough to come out for a stroll, it's good enough for me.
