100 years ago the US needed immigration and had the resources to accommodate a certain number of them.

I'm sure one side of my relatives would have been just as happy the if Euros never showed up in the first place.

But it's a little too late for what if's and trying to use the past as a comparison.

the issues are here in the now and have to be dealt with now. Allowing the Feds to let it be pushed off to the next administrivia isn't an option anymore.

security? really? so who's working on the canadian border fence.:lol::lol:

also, this is a very simple case of "follow the hate":

"Arizona’s controversial anti-immigrant law was written by a lawyer at the legal arm of the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR), which the Southern Poverty Law Center has listed as an anti-immigrant hate group since 2007.

FAIR has an extensive track record of racism and bigotry. The group, for example, has accepted $1.2 million from the racist Pioneer Fund, a foundation established to promote the genes of white colonials and fund studies of race, intelligence and genetics."

I'm going to sound harsh but illegal immigration has not been given the attention it deserves considering how bad it's getting/has been.

Illegal is Illegal, plain and simple. A subject/problem noone wants to take on because they are afraid to be labeled a racist or insensative. Every damn president that's dealt with immigration has mentioned it, put bandaids on it and left it alone.

If your here Illegally, you broke the law and should be punished or sent back.

Mexico doesn't give a rats ass because they WANT to get rid of the poor, the people they made poor by being a bunch of greedy corrupt bastards.

I know this is an old video but it pretty much sums it up. This is just for legal immigration.

What happens if a Arizona resident goes to Mexico and is asked to show his/her passport, papers or proof of citizenship and they don't have any? Do they get deported, arrested or harassed in anyway?

What is Mexico's policy on immigration?

    okay...i'll try it again...

i didn't hear malkin or hannity say anything about going after employers. i guess if you're already a citizen it's okay to do things that are illegal...

and this is the funniest thing to me: she put down mccain and linsthey graham. this issue has conservatives eating their own! and the republicans have managed to alienate another huge block of voters. thanks, arizona!

And you won't hear them go after them either.

But ultimately, who cares about the GOP?

They made their beds years ago by allowing their party to be taken over by the rightwing extremists. Let them stew in their own tea juices for a good while.

This new legislation that AZ signed into law will never pass constitutional muster.

In the short term, nationally it is nothing more than an attempt to obfuscate the real issues. Locally it hits at a very real problem for the southern border states.

So let the talking heads get their face time and their followers will continue with their blind allegiance and champion every word as per usual.

The uproar is all for naught.

But the position it puts the feds in is what is right with this legislation. They can't ignore it anymore despite what the current folks in the White House say. The issue will become the forefront issue. Especially if any part of the economy makes even the slightest improvement, which appears to be the case in recent weeks.

Not true, legal immigrants and non-anglo citizens will be subject to harrassment. Don't get me wrong, I believe that the law should be upheld. When I say that, I mean one should not be allowed to stay in this country if one is not legal. We don't get to pick and choose the laws we follow. At least we citizens don't. Unfortunately, citizens and legal immigrants will be non-intended victims.

If you are Guatemalan they shot you. Just ask someone who immigrated through Mexico to get here. The Mexican military is stationed on the Guatemalan border.

Victims of what? Having to show your ID? Gimme a break... It is a privilege to live in the United States, not a right.

I'd gladly show my ID every single day. I don't see the big deal in having to present identification on the rare occasion when asked for it. In fact, I don't even understand how "ethnic" looking people can refuse to show ID. It must have to do with their right to be an illegal alien because as a WASP I can guarantee that I would be hauled-in if I refused to show ID.

The current system creates a situation where illegals have more rights to privacy than citizens. It's about time we gave the authorities the power they need to identify those who are in this country illegally. Now that the law is on the books it needs teeth, the legislation is still lacking a system for shipping illegals out of the country.

You know what I hate? People who label people haters because they have an opinion that is different from their own.
