RR: Marshall Cyn May 27, 2006 Met up with Amuzement Man and Frozen### as well as AM's friend, Gordon, and dirttorpedo and cyclecc. As I pulled up, it was drizzling. Dude! When was rain in the forcast? It was pointed out to me that it was not really raining, but being from Southern California, I am confused and awed by all forms of precipitation. So, it was with some trepidation that I saddled up. We headed up the trail and forged the "river" crossings. It was cool, not too cold, and very wet. Dirty was being very helpful with tips and such to Frozen###. Did I mention this was his first ride? He was a gamer riding a Giant rig with 24" tires. Unfortunately, he'd eaten some cereal for breakfast and the dairy didn't sit very well. He ended up decorating the trail with some decidedly milky offerings to the biking gods. Well done! :bang: So we continued on. Frozen and Dirty headed back to the parking lot after a couple more miles. The remaining four headed up to the CWP gate. It quit raining eventually and we even saw the sun at one point. It was bitchin' to see the steam rising from the wet ground as it heated up. We also saw a couple of deer bounding through the brush as we got to the upper parts of Marshall Cyn. How bucolic! The ride back was fun and muddy. We headed back from the gate and took the first singletrack on the left down. It wasn't all that rutted and was pretty quick. The lower parts of the canyon were muddy and spattered us with brown dots. Even though it hadn't been raining hard, the stream was swollen to twice its normal size. It was kind of impressive, actually! In all, it was a good ride. Thanks to everybody who came along!
You were missed. Gordon was a pretty fast rider. He could have used the company, I think. Oh, I forgot to mention. Dirttorpedo gave me a lesson on how to clean trail obstacles (like tree roots) and I cleaned that big ass root right next to the golf course! :bang: It will menace me no longer.
Thanks for making that a fun and intersting first ride. And thanks for the all the Choizo burrito talk that helped me cure my "dairy" problem. An important lesson learned eat right before a ride. Thanks for hanging back with me Dirttorpedo, and for all the tips. Well I am hooked now, just need to get a new ride and retire the ole' Gaint, and send it out to greener pastures.
Sounds like fun. That's wierd about the pukeness . . . my pre-ride meal is always a bowl of honey bunches of oats with 1% milk and I've never had a problem with it.
Some of the others were saying it has to do with exertion and whatnot. I ate four waffles a banana and a glass of milk this morning. But, Frozen's body wasn't used to the traumas of mtn. biking. I guess. I'm not a doctor, so take it for what it's worth. As I tell my students, the only thing I'm an expert on is the English language and literature. Otherwise, if I'm talking about something else, there's a good chance I'm totally full of sh*t.
Excellent time today.......... Even with the uncooperative weather, it was a great time. Yes, EB, Gordon would have enjoyed someone else to push him but he did have a good fun ride anyway. I think he even may have learned that it can be fun to just take your time and not go balls out the entire ride. He did show his true colors at the end when someone gave him a little razzing and then he was gone like a shot and waiting at the parking lot. Thanks guys for the great ride today and we need to do this again soon. It is good to ride with people who are just out to have fun. That is the key for me....just have fun with good folks.. Gurp, thanks for putting this together lets do it again soon. Maybe next time some beers and lunch after when everyone has free time after.
Yeah it was wierd I have had milk and cereal before hockey games and practices, and hikes before and never had a problems before.
Maybe you were just excited to be riding with Dirttorpedo. I know I get that way around him sometimes.
Dooood you have no idea, i've never puked...just the serious butterflies. hahaha. But i'm gonna try and be cool and collective from now on8) It's so much easier to maintain around a man sporting a purse and pumps!!
Is that why he seemed a little taller today when I stopped by InCycle? By the way WOOOH I got a new bike! A Trek 6500, now I just need to go out and getter' dirty. 8)
