i usually go up claremont and down marshall, but i have seen single speeders, and they are fast going up claremont..
im not sure what"standard" is on the fron of a SS but i was talking to a SS guy there and he said the front ring was standard and he had a 20 tooth in the rear and he seemed to be doing fine.. :?:eek:h and that was in the mud.. so if its hard packed it'll probly be easier

I'm running a 32/19 which I ran at Aliso, SRP, and Fully...so I can't imagine this to be harder? Unless it's technical than I rather use my full squish.

nothing about claremont or marshall is technical.. if your going to be the group that goes to webb canyon you may want a full squish since it would be more fun...
but other than that you could do all this ride on aa hardtail... but there are alot of rain ruts that are not big but if you ride rigid it may require you to go a little bit slower

Marshal Is really popular with the SS'ers. I am still debating on gears or no gears in fact.

I run 32 / 18 and have no problem clearing it and I suck  It's a workout in that gearing for me but doable. 19 / 20 might make ya a little faster and easier. Once I shake this cold I'm going to try Potato with the SS.

Ken, it is a "newbie" ride so what you can't ride, walk. If I were to take you on a "training" ride through Marshall, then I would say no cause I would do every climb there is and then do it again....and again ;).
