let us know how it goes...but seriously my wife god bless her is really good about money and if i can convince her of this then you can do it.

you've got the swap meet this weekend as well where you can find parts to build this sucker up on the cheap.

I'll be doing a budget build up write up on this SS conversion project :bang: hell if i end up not liking it...i can go 1x9 :)

ok.. so i got the frame :)

it worked out perfectly, because my wife fessed up and said she was having a hard time deciding what else to get me for xmas.

    BINGO.

called Neil this morning and bought a medium frame.

i'll go up to grab it next week when i have a day off.

    yay me.

    The black looks sweet. :bang:

I think mhughes has that one.

I would go for it, but I'm looking to do a 9er SS.

disc. i want to build it cuz i've got some parts and want to save some $$$. plus i can nickle and dime it so it flies under the radar with the wife. ;)

i've been looking at the zion 737ebb at jenson ($200). i would put the rigid fork on it ($49).

even that might be too high though... in which case maybe redline monocog is more in my range.

well from hunting for Duan, I have to say that is hard to find a GREAT deal for both steel and disc frames. alot of the 9er frames out there run Vbrakes...I guess a throw back thing...but then while Duan and I were looking for a frame, the restrictions where pretty high. it had to look good and have the options he wanted in the price range, I think you may have more luck let the bargain hunting begin!!!

The Path still has some great deal on steel 29'ers. They have Units, and I almost bought the 29'er inbred they have there.

I've been wanting to try a 9er, and I need to step up the excercise involved in some of the shorter times I have to ride, so the ss should help there.

Why 1x9? Why not go all the way?

Update: Got free specialized seatpost, saddle, stem and bars today from my coworker! Monday i should be getting a 100mm manitou fork from him as well since it's just sitting there collecting dust. I scored a set of XT hubs w/ mavic wheels built on DT Swiss spokes and nipples for 139 brand new.

Also getting some Juicy 5's from him as well for $100 :) only thing left would be the SS conversion kit from performance ($20) and Cranks/BB (anyone have some laying around?)

    oh need some pedals too

I think beyond the workout a lot of people want to get back to biking like when you were younger, BMX and cruisers all were fixed gears, you just pedaled and enjoyed the fun of it all. 1x9 is the compromise? when I push myself and go all middle ring all the time, I know one Im working hard, and two I only have to think about one set of gears...makes riding less complex and you can think about all the other cool things about riding...
