    Ouch.

Quoted and bolded for emphasis. Don't touch that rear brake unless you want to do a front flip!

That camera angle makes the drop look MUCH smaller than it really is..

also the fork.....notice how active the first riders fork is and how he easily carries speed through the rocks.....second rider's fork compresses after the big hit, came up slow...the brake grab was an oh shit moment instictivly knowing he didn't have enough speed, probably why he stayed crouched and couldn't pull it up.....big positive is he will be able to walk and ride again, time to rock the beach bike :D

Alright guys, bryan and I race in the sport class. I know he knows how to ride pretty good. And i believe he knows how to setup his suspension.

I think he just choked on a big feature. Lets just focus on sending out the healing vibes...

Also i saw the xray of his broken collar bone and that thing is effed! Probably a good candidate for a plate in there.

    +1

Also riding the brakes up to the edge of the drop makes it difficult to pull up.

Best wishes to the rider. Rest up and get well soon.

If your not crashing your not pushing yourself hard enough. Just make sure you realize what happened, so you can apply what you learned to future situations.

    Lesson here is:
    Speed=your friend.

heal up,and give it another go when ready!

    BTW: Nice tr450!

Indeed. he's got plenty of time to figure out what happened.

Brian, I'll give you my experience, my clavicle broke a lot like yours (saw the xray on fb), and a plate did make a HUGE difference in comfort (and I can only assume healing time). Just saying in case that option arises, I'd definitely take a hard look at it.

Sounds like he brake checked right before the drop. Not good. Hope he heals up quickly.

I've ridden with several of those guys. They are all good riders. I've would have Definately thought twice before attempting that drop.

The drops at Mammoth are more of their signature than anything else. Well, maybe soon it might become their pavered berms (no other trail looks like Upper Twilight), but the drops are what I know Mammoth for. Next time I go there, it's to get a pic/vid of me doing the drops.

To me, the scariest drop is the one at the end of the Flow trail, as seen very briefly here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZuLMHKepyx8&feature=player_detailpage#t=17s), mainly due to the take off/approach. Was so tempted to try it, but thought it wouldn't be too wise to try it with the bike I brought, as it looked like there was no room for error and I had a couple of beginners with me, despite one being an EMT.

I'd say it's about a 6-8ft drop depending on your speed..

It doesn't look that big from far away. But when your standing on top its pretty big. Definitely a true 6 to 10 foot drop depending on speed, which by the way you pick up a lot of when you land. The entrance to flow drop also forces you to slow down a bit too so you really have to be able to do drops in order to hit it with confidence. I personally suck at drops and haven't hit flow yet, not sure if I will this summer or not.

one year i saw this guy almost land at the bottom of the ramp off flow drop. those two trees probably look really tight going that fast once you pass on the outside of the rocks... was there this last weekend and herd about someone falling on flow drop... super windy at the top, my wife and i just decided to ride all over the mountain on the AM bikes... felt sad that we didn't bring our DH bikes, there were so many DH bikes there this weekend... was kewl... bike park looked busy... everywhere else was empty...

No expert, but have hit it comfortably several times. I take my sweet time through the preceding rocks, so have a moment to compose myself for the final roll in. Once I hit the wood, I no-brake it from there until I land. This puts me about 1/2 way down the tranny...scooting fast, but in total control for the run out.

Aw hell, just follow me in. When we goin'?
