When things go wrong on Flow Drop, Mammoth Mt.

Went to Mammoth Mt this past weekend with 7 of the boys. It was Brian's first time there and our 2nd run of the day and his first time on the Flow Drop.

Result of mammoth crash. Broken collarbone + broken index finger + 20 stitches = pain.

It's our friend Brian, he broke his collar bone and finger and also needed 20 stitches. At least that's what he posted on fb.

As is often the case, video takes some of the size out of that thing. Pretty meaty drop, particularly so when you land on your head.

Hope he heals fast and well.

Flow Drop, for a midsize drop, is fairly straightforward. It can be hit fast or slow, but the rider needs to pull up accordingly. Almost everyone I know of who's been injured on that drop has gone off way too slow without pulling-up enough. Check out the difference between the two riders' techniques. Anyway, I hope that Brian recovers quickly!

It was apparent that there was a good chance of him crashing simply by the way he rolled through the rocks and set up for the drop. Note how far his elbows are dropped; he was lucky (or actually unlucky) to make it through the prior rock garden without crashing. If his friends were more skilled, they should have warned him that he didn't have the skill do to that drop.

Sorry to see someone wad it up like this. I hope he's able to heal up quickly and get back on the bike. Although we'll never know, I wonder how the Leatt helped him.

This is how he rolled into the drop. Riding with this form makes it difficult to control front end elevation.

Ouch, that sucks. heal up fast Brian, that's a bummer of a crash...

PSA: if you ride flow drop, no brakes. seriously. If you're on the rear brake once your front wheel goes off the drop, it just rotates the bike around really fast, flinging you out the front door...

Bryguy - that's what I noticed - he braked! Bad idea. Go - or don't. Hesitation breeds devastation...

Heal up quick, other tall Brian...

"Flining you out the front door!" RFLMFAO! I think I have flung myself out the front door a few times. I had to give that option up though:!

Heal up Brian and thanks for the You Tube gold.
