It'll be tight so you may want to only bring a medium size bag.

    That's only the 4-bike version, I'm sure 2 would work :-s

That thing, while underpowered, must be a riot to drive though

They already sold the Demo fleet.
The mountain is selling their Stinky's for DIRT cheap though. You could probably get one for about $900.

Don't you mean, "why would you buy a Demo'd Stinky for 900 when you can get a quality Stinky for 1100 right here in So. Cal?"

Alll right! Hoops arrived a day early, got a splitting headache lacing my first rim to a bugger of a hub known as a Rohloff. French rims are bass ackwards for the lace pattern, and it's only a 2X lace, plus the shop sent me a mislabeled 36 hole hoop instead of a 32 hole hoop, clearly stated on the packing list. ](*,)](*,)](*,)

Anyways, it's on, it's in need of tensioning and truing, between 5 cats bugging me and the doggone phone ringing numerous times, I lost count on a few spokes and number of rotations on the nipples, so.... it ain't perfect. Need to get it tuned up and tensioned properly before Mammoth

I'm going to be riding an unridden shock so we'll both have to "dial in" on the fly.

You're complaining about an unridden shock??? I have parts of a new bike scattered about my garage that I need assemble into a single working unit, which not only includes a new frame but also a new fork. So yeah, the shock is also brand new (and I have two springs: one that I know is too stiff, and one that is too soft - I don't have the one I need). On Friday, I expect to finish building the bike, cruise it in my alley, throw it in the back of the truck, and leave for Mammoth. I'll have a lot more bugs to work out than twisting a few dials! And that's not to mention relearning how to ride a DH bike!

Last year, I unboxed and installed my newly rebuilt Pushed shock in the parking lot at Mammoth as I was suited up and ready to ride. The shock arrived the day I left (which is why I bought another shock the day before just to have as a backup in case mine didn't arrive).

    All,

I was planning a trip to the plunge this weekend that everyone flaked on. Dogs and kids are accounted for, so I wanted to do SOMETHING this weekend. A quick google for "mammoth mountain closing weekend" brought me here!

    Few quick questions:

    1) Been riding about 1.5 years. I ride Noble Canyon at least once or twice a week on a Foes FXR and can pretty much ride down the entire trail without leaving the pedals. Broke a wrist earlier this year trying to keep up with the DH racers at Anderson Truck Trail. Will I be in over my head, or under-biked at Mammoth? Riding old 2.35 Kenda Kinetics now, and have seen recommendations of at least 2.5's. I assume with the amount of people going, there will be plenty of different levels of riders that will split into different groups?

    2) I am coming from San Diego and would be more than happy to carpool with someone else, or can fit 2-3 bikes/people in my Jeep Grand Cherokee. Anyone need a ride? Anyone have room? I can leave here Friday morning for Sat/Sun riding.

    3) I need a bed to sleep in. Anyone have a cabin spot open, or should I grab a single hotel room? Anyone doing mass coordination of lodging arrangements or anything?

    4) I don't really own any "cycle clothing", as I usually ride board shorts and cotton t-shirts. I am at like 4% body fat and get cold easily. Any recommendations on what to grab before the weekend?

Super stoked that I found this. I am in for sure. Need a little preparation help though :)

gvb, with a background on Noble and upper Anderson for the most part you will not be over your head. Bring a jacket that is easily removed as it can get cold and windy if you go to the top. Many XC Trails rides there, on the double diamond trails nearly all the features have ride-arounds. Wide tires with deep knobs are suggested as the Mammoth is known for its loose kitty liter soil. Pads or armor is a very good idea.
