I'll second that. The trail is in such bad shape.

Then why not stay off of it and allow it to dry out a little?

I agree with the last two comments. The STT and Luge trails will have you on and off the bike right now, and you might get a little muddy, but it's worth the effort if you're up to the challenge. It's eye-opening to see the power of Nature after a storm series of this magnitude.

Keep in mind that most of the trail is ABSOLUTELY FINE; there's maybe 5% thats a muddy mess. But even the muddy areas are beginning to dry out and get a path tramped through them. Our goal on Sunday is to enhance that path so it's all rideable.

I saw a buddy of mine yesterday near the bottom of the Luge, and he'd just ridden the standard STT/Luge loop with a woman who happened to be on her SECOND MOUNTAIN BIKE RIDE EVER!!! She had a smile on her face. :)

Right now there's about 10 people signed up on the Calendar (including me). If there's one full mile of trail that actually needs work, that's over 500 linear feet of trail for EACH of us to fix. Can we get at least a couple more volunteers and get the workload down to, say, 400 feet per person?!? ;)

Are we going to ride up or hike on the trail work day?

Looks like we'll be hiking.. it's just easier to manage tools that way. Hard enough to carry a shovel or pick while riding a trail in 'good' condition, but so much of what we're going to fix is currently a HAB..

I'd say with a good turnout, though, we might finish early enough so we can ride it after we're done fixing it :)

Jim, Dan sent me an idea, and I went down to The Path and talked it over with Tani and Brian, and this Sunday's Path Ride is going to be subbed with a "The Path Go Join Jim And Do Trail Work" day!

So basicly, if you're planning on doing the shop ride with us on Sunday the 2nd, plan on a trail work day insted. We all love to ride STT-Luge, and right now it needs work, so, let's all get together with Jim, and knock this thing out! :bang:

I'll be at The Path at 7am Sunday, rolling outta there by 7:15.
Wear clothes you don't mind getting dirty in! We'll probaly all come back to Tustin for grub, either at Super "A"s or Tustin Brewing.

    See you on Sunday!

Thank you, Maxwell and The Path! Dan, I like the way you think  After seeing what you guys did on Maple Springs, I think we've got a good thing going!

I'm going to ride to Old Camp tomorrow, so I'll know exactly what we're up against. And I promise to save a project-- just for you guys and gals-- that's sure to be F.U.N!

There's not much riding to be had, so we might as well get STT and The Luge back in order to give people somewhere to go. I am hoping with the Path's help we will be get some big numbers out there and knock a lot of this out. See everyone Sunday for a bit of dirty work! \\:D/

I rode it on Tuesday and it was mostly rideable with some hike-a-bike. There's also a long rut in the middle of the trail in the last mile or so before Old Camp.. Today's sun should dry things out again. Give yourself some extra time in either direction.

Here's a little of what you'll come across. The first shot is a fairly good sized slide that crosses the trail at about the 5 mile point. HAB up and over. The 2nd is farther out where a tree is blocking the trail-- there's a temporary trail around the right side. Shot #3 is a fairly typical small slide.

We've got a trailwork day planned for Sunday to clean it all up. Meeting at Cook's at 8:00a.m. Hope you can join us :)

A friend rode most of the way to Old Camp today, and it wasn't too muddy. Cold and windy though.

As of this afternoon, most of the STT is rideable. As for the Luge, that is another story. In a space of two days the Luge has become wetter and muddier, resulting in a slip and slide ride. The Luge needs a couple of days to dry out, and then needs some TLC trail work.
