    Now it makes sense!

A neighbor was walking his Ridgeback this morning and I had asked him how he liked his Ridgeback puppy. He had nothing but praises for the breed. She was a great looking dog. That got me thinking about getting a Ridgeback again. So, I did a random search and found this video on the topic of Rhodesian Ridgebacks:

If you go to time marker 1:20, it's interesting what the Ridgeback expert says about the breed's characteristics. Basically, "they were bred to hunt independently without a whole lot of human intervention. A pack of them (Ridgebacks) would track down a lion, hold them at bay without any interference from a hunter...". That would explain some of Kipper's "independent" behavior. :D

First, you ride with one hand to aclimate the dog to the distance needed.

Then, I have the loop in my fingers, not around my wrist, and ride with both hands and my dogs never cross my front.

I have had them drop anchor to squeeze one out. That can be alarming.....the quick stop, not the poop.

Here's our RR, Rhody, on a recent MTB ride being his usual self. He's an awesome, awesome dog. Friendly with everyone(almost), gentle with kids. 9mos, 90lbs. He's a big silly dog that we love having around. Every quality you could want in a dog, RR's have.
