Los Pinos trail down from top of San Juan Trail

    Has anyone ridden this trail recently?

    I want to go up San Juan, left on main divide and down Los Pinos trail to the hot springs.

    Just looking for trail conditions.

    I've done bits and pieces of it this last week. Two days ago I rode from Blue Jay up to the Los Pinos trail head. Today I rode up San Juan to Cocktail Rock. It was:

    (1) hot and getting hotter - I hope you aren't planning on going this weekend - bring plenty of water and sunscreen

    (2) very loose and dry; particularly on the lower end of San Juan

    (3) badly rutted at the bottom end - ruts diminish as you move up the trail and leave a lot of the traffic behind

    (4) not at all buggy

    Can't tell you anything about Los Pinos because I didn't ride it.

    So did this loop today. It was over 100 for about 2/3 of the ride. Los Pinos is in great contition but at over 100 degrees the hike a bike sections were a little warm!

    Gabe, if 2/3rds of ride was 100degrees you did something I thought you knew better to do, START LATE. Very ambitious indeed, lubricating your mouth accordingly ever since eh.

    I love the Los Pinos loop (from the bottom of SJT), but it has to be no warmer than low-mid 80s or it's just too draining. The grind up Main Divide and those 14 HABS must have been brutal in the heat.
