i take it there's probably some people who posted here that won't be watching the olympics (last I hear all of the stadiums were made in CHINA OH NOOOOOO).... all in good fun though.
Hate to tell you this chief but Toyota has more manufaturing plants here in the USA than GM, or Ford, or Mopar I am pretty sure Honda does too Might as well add Shimano, ALL suspension manufacturers except Curnutt and Avalanche, and 98% of the frame builders out there to the list. If we really wanted to keep stuff in the US we would all be rolling Foes bikes with Curnutt suspension, Chris King components, White industries cranks, Rennen or King cogs and Thomson cockpits. Unfortunately we would all be on singlespeeds because no-one in the US makes shifters or deraillers. And we wouldn't have saddles on our bikes either. The point being I am an advocate of patriotism tempered by common sense. That being said, pehaps you've heard of this small tool company from wisconsin:
FJ cruiser 100% japanese made,I use to own one...again, Im asking that particular member if he can throw stones in a glass house but thanks for your 2 cents Chief. This entire thread has gone south, what started as me trying to help the community has become some sort of political debate...its all pretty hypocritical how 75% of you are saying dont buy tools made in China, but 90% probably got Sram shifters, Derailluers on their bikes. Last time I looked on the box they were made in Taiwan.
but everyone is saying buy American...for the obvious reason that its American made, so Americans get the money. So your point that Taiwan is not China does not change the fact that its imported, and Taiwanese people take the money home. Deflecting the argument to geographical differences doesn't change the hypocrisy.
My main issue ( and this is just me) is importation from China. If you read my first post ( which unfortunately started this whole thing ) my issue is with China. Just as I do not purchase gas from venezuela ( 7-11 gas ) I have many imported items, and do not mind purchasing imported goods. I just prefer to put my dollars where my beliefs are. We must realize that without imported goods we would have much higher costs, and a drastically reduced selection. My car; japanese my bike, amreican company, manufactured in Taiwan. bike parts; USA, france, japan, Italy, The UK. My clothes, god know what third world county produced these.
3 Jeeps, One Cooper for sale. One Surly 1x1, and 2 Turners, All Fox, Yes, Shimano. Park tools. I at least try to do my part. Although I am a froeinger myself. Ali, I forgot to mention my trustworthy set of Craftsman tool, and a few Snap on. Ali
anyone notice that craftsmen tools arent like their old tools anymore? it seems like they moved their old tools into the pro series and the average joe series is average to me now. also, fyi, contrary to popular belief, just because it says craftsmen, doesnt mean it has a lifetime warranty. check the labels before you buy.
