I ride Mt. Waterman in the winter time and it is tons of fun. There are sooo many options for trails to be built. However it looks as if it is up to us to build these trails. I will be up there next weekend for sure.....It will take work to get this done and Im down to put in some work to have local lift accessed good down hill trails. Are they into building any features?

They are totally open to building features as long as they are safe for everyone.. We were talking about building step downs through the trees and as long as the newbies can just roll em they are safe. Obviously we could build some expert lines but they just need to be clearly marked.. They need trail workers to devote some time but they said they will offer free passes for a couple days to those who help out building...

I went up there yesterday to check it out. There's a lot of work to be done. I'm not a downhiller, but I do enjoy the occasional trip to Mammoth and I'm certainly not one to turn down a chairlift ride up a mountain for some fun trails down.

From my perspective there was only 1 fun way down at this point. The Waterman singletrack is a great xc type trail. There were a fair amount of hikers though.

Like others said there is good potential there. I hope they get a couple of good downhill trails to make it worth the drive up there. They seem like they want to make it work. They even had a pickup truck at the top to give rides to the Waterman trailhead which was about another mile uphill from the top of the chairlift.

here's an email I got from Mt Waterman

    Jay,
Thanks for the tip. Have you been up on the hill yet? We have done some maintenance work cleaning up the down hill trail and last week end some guys cut a trail coming down the face. Hope you and your buddies come up. We can use the exposure.
    Thanks,

    Roberto

man, without a little organization this is going to turn into a huge ClusterFvck. It's funny, I spoke with Roberto, one of the owners of Waterman, about a year ago about some races up there, I believe Gravity Works and Kona Bike Parks have been up there but Waterman does not want to spend any money on trails, so....

My suggestion would be to contact Roberto Martinez at Waterman and start setting up ORGANIZED trail days. I told him I'd be up this saturday but have not spoken with him since last week. This could be a great opportunity if people are patient and work with Waterman, or it could be another big bear. :?:

I'm pretty sure the chairlift is only open on the weekends.

I talked to Roberto this AM, he signed up on STR last night and received verification this AM. He is reading this thread and hopefully will use this forum to communicate with us. If things are not gone right at Waterman the Forest Service will get involved.

    Getting organized

Hello everyone. I have never been on a message board so please be patient. I agree with what I have read so for. If we don’t do it right it will be a cluster f and the forest service will come down on us. All the owners’ skiers so we have a lot to learn. I would be willing to meet with you guys somewhere. I would buy the pizza a beer. We can organize some trail building day and exchange ideas.

I'm down to help build stuff. I have a couple shovels and two good arms. :)

I can build on some Tuesdays and Wednesdays (I work weekends). I know the lift is closed these days but we can hike for the sake of trail building.

    Here's what I think.

I think if you let us ride your dirt we'll be more then happy to buy the pizzas.

I think I'm about to get extra extra excited about my downhill bike again! ~!woot!~

I think the 25 bucks is more then in line for some DH with a lift. Heck, s.summit was 20 bucks back in 2,001.

I'm thinkin that I'll be heading up there this Sunday to peek around. ~!woot!~
