Not to derail this thread, but there's a Mexican restaurant at Frazier park Exit across from the Flying J gas station that has the BEST SHRIMP FAJITAS ever.

I travel a lot all over CA on business and this place makes my top 5 Mexican restaurants in CA.

(Sorry for taking it off-topic, but when I saw "Los Pinos", I just had to throw this out there)

Rode up there today and the trails were in great shape. Only a few small patches of snow between the nordic center and the summit.

    Had a blast today!

Did 3 shuttle runs from the Nordic center and no snow at all on the trail. Trail conditions were great.

Just rode it yesterday...it's in great shape and only saw one other climber and a few shuttlers. There is one main singletrack that goes all the way to the top...well its a little bit of double track from the nordic parking lot to the peak. Its a great ride.

Rode the trail this morning, covered in snow, 24 degrees. We had a blast riding in the snow and hail. Lots of mud, we had a blast!

Thinking about making the drive the weekend of June 11. Any suggestions on what route to do? Climb the road and descend the singletrack? Climb and descend the singletrack? I'm riding a SS, so how steep and long is the climb?

Ruben, I was thinking of heading up there tomorrow to camp nearby and then ride Thurs, but after seeing denmother's RR, I may wait a couple weeks. Just not prepared to camp in the snow.

Seems the popular route is to climb the single track up to Pinos Peak and back down the singletrack which is the route I was planning on doing:
    http://www.geoladders.com/show_route.php?route=5076

Although someone else posted this: http://www.geoladders.com/show_route.php?route=38479 which starts at the campground up to the peak, back through the campground to the start point of the 1st route, then back up to campgrounds.

The climb up the singletrack is about 8.5 miles if you go all the way to the peak, which I suggest. It's a constant climb but nothing too steep..about 3,000 vertical feet as I recall. I would highly suggest climbing it rather than taking the road. It's not a difficult climb IMO, but everything is relative I guess and I've never ridden a single speed so I can't comment on that.

Climb the singletrack to the Ski Hut parking lot and then climb the fireroad (your only choice) to the ultimate peak(pic) & lookout. Except for the Harvest Trail the grades are no problem for SS.

If you don't want any HAB, skip the Harvest Trail and take the paved road to the Ski Hut when climbing. It's the steepest section and uttterly rutted and trashed. But I bet you'll try it anyway. LOL

Finally made the trip yesterday. Totally worth it. It was a beautiful day, the temperature was perfect, and the trails were in great shape. We parked at the trailhead for the McGil trail. Climbed McGil, and Southridge singletracks. Since I was riding my SS, we decided to skip the Harvest trail and rode the road to the Nordic Center instead. We continued the climb on the fireroad to the towers and then to the Mt. Pinos summit.
The descent was fast, especially Harvest and Southridge trails. The only negative was that it was over way too soon...
We were done with the whole ride in just over 2 and a half hours, and that included plenty of stops to admire the scenery.
There was a good number of other riders, hikers, and runners, but everybody seem to be courteous on sharing the trail.
Even though is a bit of a drive from OC, and that the ride itself is not very long, this is has to be on everybody's must ride list...

Don't try the second route. You should do the low altitude climb in the cool of morning. On a typical late spring or summer day the base gets hot.
