Other than Bootleg Canyon, where can you ride near Las Vegas? I google mapped Mt Charleston and saw a few trails such as North loop, South Loop, Trail canyon, Fletcher Canyon, are any of these open to bikes? Anyone know a good bike shop out that way?

There is a ton of awesome riding in Vegas. Tell me what you are looking for and I can tell you where. There is xc in Blue Diamond, 30-40 miles. Outpost bike shop is in Blue Diamond, it is not as far as you think. There is greay varierty at BBT off 215W and Towne Center, which is located right near Las Vegas Cyclery. Cowboy trails have chunk and fun. Broken Spoke Cyclery there. Charleston has a great shuttle trail, my favorite is Tin Can. Some ride up it, I won't. Bristle Cone loop is also up there, it is a 6 mile loop, 3 miles is fire road. Don't know of any shop out there. Get gas before heading out there, no gas on mountain. I may even be able to find you a guide if you need one? [email protected]

I have only ridden a few Gabe trails. Cowboys are pretty sweet. Tin Can is more of a flow trail with side chutes that has jumps and stunts. I am willing to bet you have ridden Cottonwood(Blue Diamond).

Thanks for the info. Any type of trail is good, long as I'm riding. I'm in Vegas June 13-18 and was thinking heat may be a issue, I plan to start at sunrise or earlier. I'll check with some of the shops mentioned.

If there is heat, I just busted out laughing, it will stay hot. Charleston is your best bet when it heats up. Usually 15-20 degree cooler up there. We rode late at Cottonwood last year and it just never seemed to cool down in some of those valleys. I'm not sure, but All-Mountain bike shop in Boulder, may actually have the best info regarding Charly. They run shuttles up there when it's too hot at Boot Leg.

I figured that Charleston would be cooler. I'll most likely ride there one day and Cowboy Trails another.

Someone needs to get out and explore. The SA are fun but they are not the end all of trails. For one, lots of fire road. 1 mile up any trail in Bootleg is harder and more physical than any fire road in the SA mtns.

I enjoy Vegas riding and used to ride there twice a month. My suggestion, go get lost on the upper sections under the highway across from Late night Parking lot. Good elevation and the 3 mile smile and Red Valley runs are great. I also enjoy any of the upper sections in Blue Diamond. Lots of fun chunk with flow. Here are some of my rides.

I finally put a ride plan together. With a ton of research, reading old RR's, mountiainbikebill's site, and calling a few shops in Vegas. I'll be riding Cowboy Trails on Saturday and Cottonwood area on Sunday, plan to be at trailhead just before first light and beat the heat. Should be back to the MGM before wife and kids get up for breakfast. Looking forward to new dirt.

Heat is not bad at all, Riders out here meet @ 7am, its prime time for the Indigenous. First light is stupid early, looking at shy past 5am. Im guessing your alarm is 4:30am or so !! Have a small cooler waiting for you back in your vehicle. I would meet up with you, but i work Sat-

Take pictures of all the good climbs = )

    Have fun- Cheers...

Thanks for the info. Might pull back on my start time and try to hook up with some of the indigenous folk at trailhead. Although being at the trailhead and catching first light has some appeal to early risers like myself, usually get up at 5am. I'm riding Sunday also, let me know if your interested.
