I'm going! Registered for the 100 but probably doing the 70 because the last 30 is just laps around Griffith and I do that all the time.

I'll be there hopefully, looking to do the 70 as well.

I did the first one and did the whole thing on my mountain bike. Damn, was I tired. Did it again a few years ago and had a blast. Casual ride with a lot of clowning going on. I wish there were more weekends.

Ok, I learnt 3 very important things:

1: Don't bring a mountain bike to a road bike event
2: Use chamois butt'r, chafing is bad, mmmkay.
    3: Ouch.

Saw one person in an STR Singletrakk jersey that I did some mumbled shouting to, I was the fat bloke clanking along on on a silver Hardrock :)

I was wearing 2 piece mountain shorts (lycra inners), but yes, it dawned on me very early that I should have gone full on lycra lout and brought the road bike :)

Lycra helps on road bikes because your pedaling alot more than on a mountain bike and your legs are stretched out more.

Finished up the 70 mile'r. Averaged 17mph for the entire ride and just under 4 hours ride time. Made it to Long Beach in two hours, the ride back was slightly faster. The riding through the streets of LA was brutal. The roads hammer you.

I was starving by the time we got back to LA, I can't remember the last time I ate so fast.

    Had a blast...hooked as a roadie.:bang:

    Onto the next one!

Yeah. I'm just rather self conscious about wearing lycra at the moment :)

This was really just a test ride for my first Century in August, I figure I might as well make the mistakes now and get them out of the way on the shorter rides.

It's the first time I've done much more than 50 miles, the 70 mile route came in at 66 according to the GPS, but I started getting a complete bastard of a cramp in my right thigh around the 55 mile point.

Any suggestions there? I was taking in plenty of fluids and electrolytes so I'd be surprised if that was the cause, is it just a case of getting used to doing more miles? (My usual weekday rides are 20-25 miles).

Yeah, I was kind of glad I didn't bring the (carbon) road bike, those railway lines were savage.

    Managed the ride in a little longer than you did, although I stopped a couple times;

Already signed up for the 3 Harbors Metric on July 11th, that one looks to be rather more picturesque than riding along a concrete flood basin :)

    woo, that was fun!

Sounds like a cleat/position adjustment. Have you been to a bike fitter?

Carbon bikes can take much, much worse abuse than those tracks.

Not on this bike, I had my road bike fitted properly but this is just my old kickabout bike, I'll try a good 60 mile ride on the road bike and see if I have the same problem.
Well I'm a pretty serious clydesdale so I'm just a little bit worried about overstressing the thing :)

I noticed alot of flats on the LA streets also. I heard another rider calling it "The Tour de Prayer", since its not escorted like the Fun Ride...if your lost...your on your own! #-o

Rode in a group with a couple fixed riders...they were jammin!
