I think most manufacturers whose bikes are made overseas make a good deal of money on their frames. The prices come down and profits shrink on every (semi) major brand's products once they have been replaced by updated designs.

Do your research, shop around, and do what works best for you and your budget. But that's what you're doing right? Just my opinion.
