Is this Mtn Biking thing hard?

Okay...I've been on here for a few months to see what this whole mountain biking fad is all about. I've decided to jump on the bandwagon until the whole Razor scooter scene makes a comeback. Oh yes...It's gonna happen!!

Anyway, I'm probably gonna jet from work a bit early to meet all you hooligans at the Fullerton Loop for the evening ride tomorrow. I just have a few questions:

1. Is it hard?
2. I heard that I should have been training for at least 2 or 3 months before I attempt it.
3. Are there any hills? I don't know if I can hang with the whole biking thing if hills are involved...
4. Would it be cheating if I brought a motocross bike to ride?
5. If there are hills, do they have lift access to the top like at Big Bear and Mammoth?

Anyway...looking forward to riding with you guys. I'll be on a black Epic.

 

1) It's harder than a bike path but compared to just about any other mountain bike rides it's easy. Lots of regrouping so people don't feel left behind. The overall pace is more on the mellow side - lots of socializing going on.

3) There are maybe two or three actual uphills but they're all short.
4) YES
5) Not yet, but those are in the planning stages.

 

Dude you will love Fully Loop. It's a fun ride. Lots of things to try as you get more comfortable with riding, and it's just a lot of fun.

Mountain biking is hard. If it was easy, everyone would do it. Fortunately, it's basically only as hard as you make it. There are many beginner level trails out there to "cut your teeth on".

However, I know more than a few people who went out and bought a $500 beginner bike and had fun until they hit their first climb. Then it was "wow this is hard" and now the bike collects dust in their garage.

The best way to get better in terms of fitness and skill is to just get in a good amount of saddle time. After almost 4 years, the stuff I ride now compared to what I rode when I started amazes me. Just stick with it and your skill will progress faster than you think.

What's a sandbagger? I bought my bike and gear pre-ridden and pre-worn so I don't look like a newbie. :-$

I am new too.

I will be learning how to ride a bike for the first time . Will I need water wings and shoulder pads? I heard that there is a lake. Can I go swimming? I have a old football helmet. Will that work. The bike I will be riding is a royce union yeah its kinda rad. I picked it up second hand from a former pro rider. :?:I will want to learn popawheelies right away.

Ya it's friggin' hard#-o....haven't you been watching the news about all of the people that die everyday on the Fullerton loop, about 2-5 everyday:-k NOT. Dude, come on out and I swear you ae going to have a blast :bang:. Just don't be discuraged if you're not at the same level as other riders8-[. You need to start somewhere:beer:.

 

I heard about all the very dangerous wildlife in the area. Should I bring my elephant gun, in case we are being chased by any elephants?

:welcome: Mtb'ing is easy! On most rides, you only have one more hill and it's not that bad (you can usually see the top once you get around the first few corners).

The guys here are pretty slow, just look at the posts, cars are ALWAYS passing them. Not that I'm one to talk, they're always passing me.

Fully loop is the most dangerous/hazardous/freaky loop around. I heard that most Twilight Zone episodes originated there.

Don't worry about the bike, but you may want to update your equipment. Square tires are really in this year, just check out your LBS and get yourself a set before tonight.

Most importantly, have fun and don't pick on the rest of us (we outnumber you)!
