Well...after trying to make STR seem like a pretty reasonable group to someone from outside the mtb community, thanks for shooting us in the collective foot.

I gotta be honest.....I often wish the equestrians would "pick up after themselves".

People who ride horses are really animal abusers full of denial.

This is a classic trail conflict discussion. All of the *-sizing about who has been there the longest is really about resource conflict. The hikers and the equestrians have been on the trails since well before us bikers arrived. We're last to the party so we get the blame for "the problem". However our arrival coincides with another change, and that is the massive increase in population over the last couple of decades in SoCal. I postulate that SORP would be impacted by that without us.

I don't only yield at speed, I yield at slowness and I always dismount out of respect for the horsie.
Most of the equestrians I have met are polite and have wonderful control of their mounts.
Many are most appreciative of the dismount while also claiming it is unnecessary.

Being disrespectful of others on the trail makes one a douche-bag irrespective of the mode of transport be it wheels, hooves or feet.

And if we agree to focus on changing that one behavior, will Suzie Kelley agree to stop riding off trail? After all, that is what started this whole conversation.

I'm bummed I made a point of ignoring this thread for so long, I would have enjoyed dinner at Moreno's. And I missed out on one of the best STR flame wars in many years.

OK I was just going to reply that if enigma went to the Starbucks on Main St. in HB today they could indeed see me there in my spandex. A word of warning though, an image of me in spandex is not something you want burned into your brain for the rest of your life.
    I have no shame.

    Spandex, Lycra, whatever.

Hey, I just learned that Spandex and Lycra are one of the same.

This is a great read, very similar to issues we've had up here in Palos Verdes. Good luck finding some middle ground out there at the Oaks.

Agreed--more and more peeps are moving to OC and are also getting healthier--out exercising on the trails. Get back to your TV sets, people!

I need to check the by-laws, but I think you may have exceeded the maximum post count per hour allowed on the interwebs.

I am amused by the number of people who joined ONLY to bitch in this thread. We need to ban everyone who joined in the last week.

Just so there is no misunderstaning, she was NOT trying to avoid a cyclists when she rode up the fall line of Deer. She and her friend were the only people on the trail. She was doing it because it was fun. I have seen her riding off trail on multiple occasions when no one else is in the area. The subject of this post was originally (and still is as far as I am concerned) about destruction of habitat. Trail conflict is another subject entirely. With that in mind, yes I do hope I ruined her ride as punishment for trampling the habitat. No ignorance there. It's wrong and I want it to stop.
BTW - If I am riding up a trail with switchbacks and I see another bike rider coming down the trail, is it OK if I just cut through the bushes to the next switchback. NO! And you know it. That's exactly what I told Suzie. She knows it's wrong. She just thinks her fun is more important than preserving the trail system, the habitat, and obeying the law that everyone else has to obey.

STR seems to have gotten some new members lately!
