need your address too when you have time :)

what fork are you guys gonna rock on the frame? just curious so i can provide better advice to people inquiring from other places as i dont know much about these "types" of bikes, ie, slack hardtails made for longer forks

if I could afford to build it:

    20" frame
160mm fork a la my domain uturn, some lyrik, or a 36 talas
some nice prebuilt wheels. hope hoops, transition 32's, outlaws for heavy duty use
    hone or SLX cranks
1x9 with an SRS up front, short cage x9 rear, 32T ring, 11-34 cassette
some brakes, 7"/6" rotors (lots of modulation in back with the hardtail)
    whatever cockpit fits.

that'd be a pretty rockin AM bike. only other possible change: go 2x9 with a 22-34 rings and a DRS or similar

nice...i am starting to get the hang of what makes most sense on such a bike.

you can add XT Disc brakes to your order for $190 if you really want hyrdos and not mechs...i can also get a 2009 Revelation for cheap as well...just figured i would trhow that out there and in fact, can hook you up with complete XT / SRAM cassette group that includes XT brakes, deraillerus, disc brakes, shifters, cassette, chain if you need more parts. the whole XT groiup i mentioned woudl be $375...and 2009 Revelatoin would be about $360

    will chat later regardless

i have hydros on everything else, i just have a new found respect for bb7's from trials so may try some of them for awhile. thanks to azonic my price on outlaws is too good to pass up. Otherwise i would get something lighter. I may be putting an x-fusion on it because its simple and light and goes with my no frills approach to the bike, plus i have been running one for 4x/dj for over a year with no problems

I'll be throwing all of the parts from my HOSS on it. It's pretty much set up as all mountain already. It's designed around a 100mm travel fork though, and with the PIKE all the way up, it has a 67 degree HA.
I'm interested to ride it with a steel frame, and 66.6 HA.
Gonna feel like my Stinky, but easier on the climbs!

    PIKE Coil U-Turn up front
    DT 5.1d wheels
Hone cranks 3 ring set up with the new MRP guard.
XT drive train (I run SRAM on my other bikes)
    Formula K-18's

sounds great! i am gonna put together a hypothetical build for self and see what it ends up looking like...i want one! :)

I think technically, the 456 is the "Inbred" 456...or are you talking about the typical Inbred most folks refer to, ie, the slot dropout version, and which wheel size version? Either way, Brant has the info on his site for the standard Inbred here http://www.on-one-shop.co.uk/?page_id=598

I am talking about the 26in slot version. There is no info on what size fork that geo is based on. They say optimized for a 4-5 fork so does that mean a 70 head angle is with a 4" fork or a 5" fork. Plus there is varying axle to crown lengths in each size travel fork. I am trying to figure out how this may work with a fork I have lying around. Its a 5" fork but it has a long axle to crown length. I am trying to get an idea how it would look geo wise with that fork.

    thinking about it some more:

XT build kit (wheels, brakes, shifters, cranks, etc), lyrik u-turn mission control. run 2x9 with a DRS for chain security. swap the XT rear mech for a 2009 saint one (short cage), to reduce chain-slap. or go X9 if you like sram.

finish off with whatever level of cockpit you prefer. I'd say wide bars (deity dirty30 or sunline v1), thomson stem/seatpost to fit, and some nice lock-on grips.

things I'd consider changing from that:
cheaper fork. something 160mm with travel adjust/low speed compression. domain u-turn 318 comes to mind, just heavy...

for lighter weight: TALAS 36 would be ideal (pike weight, lyrik/domain travel).

Short cage?:?: I thought short was for singe ring, and lond was for double with saint.

I'm pretty sure that a short cage shimano will work with a dual ring setup on a hardtail. it won't work on a FS for sure, since you usually have to contend with chainstay growth. it's walking a fine line, but I think you can manage it if you don't cross-chain in your granny.

edit: on second thought, running 2 rings plus a granny shouldn't be a problem at all for the hardtail. you size the chain against your 2 largest cogs. adding a granny will add slack to the system when in that gear, but as long as you don't move to too small of a cog whil in your granny, you'll be fine. if you do, I think it's just a matter of downshifting to bring the chain back into tension

the new Saint will work with up to a 34t cassette so its fine as I understand it. It does get confusing becuz depending on what site you are on, the "GS" version may be referred to as the "short" version and the "SS" version referred to as the "super short" version but I think more appropriately, and as stated on the Shimano site, "GS" = mid-cage and "SS" = short. In any event, the SS version is indeed shorter but is targeted for single rings up front requiring less chain so it can still be set up to accomodate what most of us would consider normal 34t cassettes.

It also comes with a sweet mode converter where the AM mode allows the der to be setup for up to a 32/34t otherwise, you can use the DH mode.

I just ordered Saint shifters and GS Saint rear der for the Intense cuz i like the way they look and will match my M810 cranks :) should arrive this week...and if I can figure out a "plan" for a 456 i will go Saint as well

yeah. I'm using an X9 super shorty on my DH with an 11-32 cassette with no problems. still plenty of room to take up slack in the taller gears. don't see it being much different on the shimano stuff, seeing as they have a longer cage iirc. ima go peruse the shimano site and see what I can find...
