1. I stopped using electic lights. Fire light helps bring the night. 2. Kava Tea 3. Brahms, Ravel, or Ray Lynch's trippy album "Deep Breakfast". 4. If that still doesn't work and I can tell I'm going to be up all night, I go run down the beach. 5. Marathon humping, if you're into sex. 6. I'd say poetry weed, but it turns me into a drooling retard, so not exactly right...
I have been getting way better sleep now that I am unemployed, I guess that's one good part of it.
To fall asleep I listen to Coast to Coast with George Norry (KFI AM). I miss Art Bell. He was the king of late night radio talk. Interesting and sometimes bizarre topics such as: Alien aircraft reverse engineering, Area 51, Roswell, New Mexico, Moth Man, Sasquatch, Lochness monster, etc. "West of the Rockies... you're on the air... hello??"
Coast to Coast rules! I like to listen to it late into the night while working on my bikes. As for curing insomnia- if your problem is you can't get your mind to turn off, start taking 500mg of vitamin B1 in the morning and at dinner. It cures the "chronic thinking while trying to sleep". Takes a few days to kick in but really works. The explanation as to why it works is quite long but it does work.
I found reading the Bible works great. After a few chapters, whatever is racing in my mind keeping me up goes away, and I fall peacefully asleep. Jeff
Meditate. It's very close to sleeping and before you know it, you'll be out. Close your eyes, concentrate on slow, deep breaths, clear your mind of whatever is keeping you up (it will still be there tomorrow) and enjoy your thoughts / visuals until you're not conscious of them any more... zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz...
You know, even though I started this damn thread, I realized I forgot the one thing I have been doing since I was child that induces a coma: -try starting a rosary- Any Catholic kid will tell you 10 Hail Mary's and an Our Father induces coma
