Concrete crossing had a little bridge. The whole section leading to it had no carnage, I heard. Heat was brutal. Course benefitted from recent rain. It was a real MTB course: my legs weren't sore, but my lower back was. Gotta do some crunches or sumfin. ;)

The sport class turned in 20 minute laps. So did the experts, but they did four laps at noon instead of 3 at 10am. The pros probably did something impressive but I didn't look. It's just depressing...

A lot of my first lap was a traffic jam. Poor beginners only got one good lap unless they were at the front.

You were right, Tara, I did well. 1st place! Hot d@mn!

yep. fun race. lots of short climbs with no real time for recovery. good fun. not much technical stuff.... just a short little dh section that lead into the concrete ditch crossing, which if you hit it with some speed, you could loft a little air over and onto the pavement section. fun....

good course. good event. no u.s. cup event but really fun for a mid october race.
hard too. it was warm, and since many of us are taking it easy in "off season" made this one hurt just a bit more then usual.

troupe rocked though. we had 3 1st places and 1 3rd. our women are riding strong....

    mt sac should be fun.

Very fun race! First time ever at Bonelli. No traffic jams for cat 3 that I could see, except for longest of the climbs where there were a number of folks walking their bikes. Only one serious downhill, plus a newly plowed moonscape that had consequences for getting out of line. More climbing and probably a harder course than OTH, and no little suicide thrill drops. I managed to ride the whole thing without a stop or any hab. Mostly a matter of pain management. Very pleasant group of people. Talked to EricW from STR after the race. Took 1st in my small age group. Nice trophy! Might have to check out Mt Sac race.

I enjoyed kicking back and watching while the others raced. It has been a crazy few weeks since the 24 hour race at Hurkey Creek. I don't think Willie has been able to get more than four rides in since that race. This was gonna hurt. I watched her go by on the first lap and she was not far behind Michelle who I think ate rocket fuel for breakfast. On the second lap there was another girl very close behind her and they were pushing hard.

When I saw her coming down the last hill for the finish the girl was right on her wheel and Willie was hammering. Coming into the last corner she tried to pass Willie on the outside and Willie shut the door. The other girl hit the fence and crashed but was OK. When the other girl got up and made it to the finish they hugged. Girls are so different! Something tells me if that had been two guys the outcome would have been different.

So Willie ended up with 2nd in Cat 2. Good day!!!

I told you I was gonna put that on the internet! That was classic. It's always more fun when someone poses or banters with me when I'm out there. It was a fun day, but now I'm torn between bringing the bike or the camera to Mt. Sac.

While I always like looking at high quality photos of myself, I'd say bring the bike. It's more fun!

Follow the link reprap posted above. He's got 2 shots of you going through the chicane. I think they are in the B album...

    Hey Brian

Just a quick thanks to for taking the time and riding with me last week. Congratulations on the race.

For those of you reading this post I want to thank Brian and other MTBers who have helped and encouraged me to develop my biking skills. I love this sport and have a long way to go before I can ride anywhere near what I saw at Saturday's race.
Brian, since last week I have been back to Bonelli 3 times. I can not make that climb all the way up and over Tree Line, and the downhill section is something I am still working on.

    Thanks again,

    Mike
