    Mike,

Helmet cam will be your best friend in this case. Start recording your rides, nothing better than wet sloppy video evidence.

EUREKA. Your post gave me the perfect solution to this problem. Wear bike jerseys promoting NASCAR, chewing tobacco, TapOUT, Budweiser, etc. (I hope I didn't offend anyone here.)

I completely agree! Mike, you should call the TLG posse out of retirement and have them be your wing men while riding the 909. Ah, the good ol' days! ;)

Great interval training. Catch-up with the car that buzzes you.

Maybe the day will come when drivers start fearing riders: "..Oooh I better watch out or that cyclist will kick my a$$..."

Seriously though, read liscence plates and report anything that endangers other fellow riders...

I've actually been hit by a car on my old 24" DK Cruiser in college while riding to work. She made me a hood ornament on her Chevy Celebrity station wagon and killed my bike. I mule kicked a guy in a honda civics door at an intersection for honking at me and damn near hitting me sometime later. People are in a hurry no matter what kind of bike your riding. I think roadies get it worse because of the outfits, thats just the way it goes. Worse comes to worse unclamp your seat post and use it as a weapon! ;)

If you can catch up to the car, a knife through the right side tires works well. I'm just sayin'...

(ETA: This is not legal advice.)

I'm a law student and not a lawyer. That disclaimer out of the way, get the license plate, get a good look at both people in the car. See if you can't get the driver as an accessory to assault and battery, he'll probably be willing to give up his buddy.

Paint stripper on one of your bottles and squirt the hell out of it on their vehicle, then a few days later, voila! they'll be surprised!

Get license plate numbers and call 911. They will respond. Best if you have a fellow rider with you as a witness. I almost got ran off the road by a drunk on PCH. I called 911 told them they asked for location as I continued (yes, cell in hand while riding :( and the dip$hit rearended a car at 9th street so I let the dispatcher know that he had now stopped and was trying to remove his grille from the rear bumper of the Explorer at the light. (The @$$munch was cheering me with his styrofoam coffee cup as he was veering into me and the construction at Main and PCH! ) RIDE DEFENSIVELY! THEN THROW POO! Like a monkey!!!

I had to chime in. I've been to Europe a bunch and the mentality of the drivers there is, "It's just how it is". If anyone has been there...driving is just nuts. People cutting each other off, speeding, etc but it's a part of their life. People are just trying to get to where they are going and it's nothing personal. I would think this holds true in N.Y. as well. Generally drivers in CA and especially O.C. are just too uptight. Everything is offensive to them. It's the whole, "I'm in my car and you are in a lane that I own" thought process. Honestly, it's never going to change unless you decide to move elsewhere. I can recall countless incidents I've been involved in and I'm not even a roadie. Case in point, riding down Portoloa after a Whiting loop.
