OK Ladies and Gents, being a DH noob, I just got some flats for my DH sled (specialized lo-pro mag 2), but I've never ridden with flats. What shoes should I get? Everyone says the 5.10s are best (especially re: interface with pedal), but aren't they kinda flexy? I'm used to thinking that stiff soles are essential to good pedaling - you know, energy transfer and all that. Is this irrelevant in DH? :-k

5-10s are the way to go. super tacky and flexible enough to feel the pedal yet good for pedaling. the sticky rubber really makes you feel stuck to your pedals. you wont be disappointed. i race in clips, but when im on flats i have to be in 5-10s.

5.10's.... I have been on flat pedals since this summer (I rode clipped in)... I have only tried 2 types of shoes, DC skate shoes, and 5.10's... and to me the 5.10's grip 100 times better.....

I might be going out on a limb here because of the price, but I have ridden with these shoes for the last... let's see... it will be two years in April and I, at this point could never ask for more out of a shoe.

Super grippy on the pedal and HAB in the loose stuff.
    Breathe really really well.
    Never stink.
    Water proof.
    Extremely comfortable.
    Oh yeah, and SUPER LIGHT.

5.10's DC skate shoe, Vans, 661 skate style clipless, without removing the cover, Any skate style shoe for that matter

Dont worry too much about shoe flex for DH, remember DH your normaly just a quick sprints, or a long stand up mash, your not going to be sitting for extended spins on the DH bike.

any skate shoe with a waffle grip works wonders. when they were new, my vans gripped like mad to my azonics. they've since worn little pockets where the pins are on the sole, and lost a little grip in the process.

other than that, 5.10's are supposed to be cool. never tried them, but whatever.

Over the years, I've used several types and makes of shoes. For a while, I used the SixSixOne shoes. They had good grip, and I loved the super stiff soles, which would help on long DH runs. Then I tried the 5.10 shoes. They have more flex than the SixSixOne shoes, but they weren't so flexy that my feet would hurt. On top of that, like I'm sure you've heard, the grip these shoes provide make you feel like you're half way clipped in!

    Don't you ever.....EVER...question the 5.10 shoes!!!!!

So, most of you are really on the fence about this (840 votes for 5.10s, 3 for something else). I think I will take SlickShoe's advice, in pink of course. I'll ride what Sam Hill rides. Pink UGGs! I'll bet they look good with his red and white Demo 8. Do you put the shin guards over them, or tuck them in? :bang:

Well, since they probably don't come in a size 13, I might settle for the 5.10s instead.
