I just switched out my 711 mm handlebar for a 762 mm bar.

(Sorry. We need more humor around here.:p)

Umm, no. And no cheating using the centimeter side of the ruler!

@ Bing! - I hear ya. I've had bars this wide before, and it can be disconcerting when you think you'll clear something and then *scrape*whack*bam*!

I thought tall guys all ran wide bars :?:;)

Take some time to get used to having less clearance for sometimes unobvious obstacles (A) before you reach the fun stuff (jump) you're focused on (B). I learned the hard way #-o

Sorry Pat didn't realize you were already familiar with wide bars. Disregard my silly attempt at pedagogy. Like you said, we need to at least try for some humor around here..

With no one around, I just measured the width of my bars. They're 27". Seriously, what real world advantage is there to wider bars? Thanks in advance!

So, you are saying it is the bars fault that you clipped a tree and it wasn't your lack of spacial awareness that caused the accident?

easier to breath while climbing ( chest more open), more leverage, more control while descending, and imo easier to corner on a 29er

Draw your own conclusion. This is just to start you off. At the very least, elbows out is a more athletic and aggressive position and wide handlebars naturally put you in this position.
