Wife and I were out on our road ride today, thought i would take her through Aliso Creek Trail up to Cook's Corner to give her a taste of another trail.

All went well as we started to head back; those familiar w/ this trail it's all uphill from Aliso Wood Canyon to Cook's but the ride back is sweet downhill grade most of the way.

We were near Los Aliso and Rockfield when we were coming up on this short ramp climb up to the higher level of the bike trail. it's a narrow little corridor so I got up out of my saddle and pedaled to get some speed. as i was approaching the end of that retaining wall, i must have hit a sand patch because i washed out and my bike went to one side (creek) and i went the other (bike lane). My wife said i hit the wall parallel with my head on the left side and when i landed i must have landed flat on my back because the back of my Atmos helmet is blunt and cracked. Add to that my wife was right behind me and couldnt slow down in time and my poor wife ran over my hit my lower back square on and went OTB and landed on top of me and only had a little pain from the handle bar digging into her tummy as she went OTB.

Went to the ER because i did black out and my right knee doesnt feel right if i put any sort of lateral load on it feels like it "pops" out of place. they xray'ed and found nothing broken but knee is swelled up so they cant check for ligament damage; scheduling a follow up visit w/ an orthopedic specialist this week.

So now i'm on pain meds, knee immobilized and crutches LOL im so pissed because i was doing really good and my fitness was getting up there too.

And my helmet sacrificed itself for me, think i can still use it? I'M KIDDING

Bummer. I'm still down too. I was in the same boat. My training was on lock and I was getting in better shape pretty quickly. Then I went down hard and couldn't walk at all for almost a week. I'm still not able to ride or excersise. Glad your wifey didn't get broke off too bad as well. Then who would take care of you lol Heal fast. Being off the bike sucks

Damn, you didn't mess around, did you? I guess the crash bug is going around right now, as I am currently nursing a cracked rib as well as a few bruised ones just to balance out the symphony of... discomfort.

Yeah, and injuries suck for training; I was just getting into the rythym of my gym workout and was starting to see real results (unassisted pull-ups) and now I can't take deep breaths.

Hopefully, the knee thing isn't serious and you'll be back on the bike soon. Now if you excuse me, I'm going to self-medicate with Guiness and Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy.

    Duan,
I am not sure what Giro has for a replacement policy, but you might want to drop them a thank you note letting them know their product did what it was supposed to.

I have ridden that section of the Aliso Creek trail plenty and have always been a little weary of that spot. Hopefully the knee isn't anything serious and doesn't keep you or the wife off the bikes too long.

wow seems like I can feel your pain.... I crashed hard yesterday at stairsteps and a couple of washout today at mt. wilson.... not a scratch on me... I know most of you does not like wearing pads since you don't feel comfortable... but I'd rather be uncomfortable riding with pads rather than feel pain for a week or two... my wrist hurts when I put pressure, but no missing skin... get well soon..

Giro does some kind of pro rated type thing if you've got a receipt.

Sorry to hear about your crash and glad it wasn't worse. Have you had a shower yet? Make sure the kids aren't around, it's not a good thing for them to see their dad scream in agony. Through my experience it's always more painful the second day. Hope it's not to bad for you two.
