That's pretty funny! But I completely understand.

    Hope you heal quickly.

    Hey all,

I'm finding crutches are a pretty good workout. You're supposed to support your weight on your hands and arms instead of your armpits--done right, hobbling around on crutches is really tiring! Additionally, when you swing your body forward, you've got to elevate your lower body, which means doing a stomach crunch once per "step." My left leg is getting stronger, too, from all the one-footed hopping.

Cardiovascular really isn't getting much of a workout, so that'll be part of the recovery process.

I should get a real cast this week. Until now, I've had a temporary splint from the E.R. Follow-up care begins tomorrow with a doctor's visit and I'm assuming a referral to an orthopedist. My insurance just changed, and I had to spend some time getting things straightened out before I could schedule an appointment.

I'm crossing my fingers I'll get a fiberglass cast that I can get wet (maybe swim in, too...dunno) 'cause I'm not a big fan of the bath tub!

    Cheers!

    You didn't miss much!

I guess the crutches are a good visual aid to tell people you're really and truly hurt.

I was told mine is a "non weight-bearing" injury so I can't stand or walk on my right foot. I'm amazed at how this limits "normal" activities--even simple stuff like putting a plate of food in the microwave and trying to carry it to a table is trickier. I'm very thankful that this is temporary.

I should also add that my refund check from the Warrior's Society showed up Saturday--very cool.

I'm looking forward to next year, and planning on showing up to the CC to cheer others on. If I see too much suffering, I might decide I inadvertently dodged a bullet by not participating...

Kevin! So sorry to hear of your break!

That area is always bad as it supports so much weight! My wife is still dealing with an ankle break from '06.

    Hey Ted,

There's a lotta hardware in that X-ray! I hope she gets back to 100%.

I'm finally going to see a foot/ankle specialist tomorrow morning. I just got new insurance (company changed hands) so there were some delays with the paperwork and approvals because there was some incorrect info in the system. Today I went to the specialist's office in person without a prior phone call, figuring that they would have a harder time blowing me off if I was physically standing at the reception counter. It worked.

    Great news!

The doctor (specialist) said that my foot isn't broken. The bone is bruised and apparently it can take up to a year for the tenderness to completely disappear.

I've gotten the go-ahead to do whatever I feel good enough to do. The words were "You can't hurt it, but it can hurt you."

Long story short: I've got a swollen, tender foot, but nothing more.

Thanks everyone for all the kind words and the support. I'm glad that this thread could taper off on a good note.:)
