My bud Mario, wins again. I think he's did 21 before, but Tinker clicked off some ridiculous number like 24 or something like that.
Here's my race report: 24 hour races hurt like you can't believe, then you finish, and start looking to see when the next one is! This was only my second 24 race, and it was a blast. Hurkey Creek has some killer trails, they help take your mind off the suffering at 2 am. I was on a 4 man team, which was actually 2 men and 2 boys. Or maybe it's 2 old farts and 2 little buckaroo's, either way, the team rode strong. One of the youngster's encountered two flat's and a pretty hard crash at night, but he recovered and put in another lap in the morning. There were two Sho-Air teams, one 4 man and one 5 man, and it quickly turned into a race to see if you could complete a lap without getting passed by a Sho-Air rider. Those guy's kicked some serious booty! We did 5 laps each on our team, got a little sleep, had a lot of laughs (Dirttorpedo), ate some food, and now I really don't want to sit on a bike seat for awhile, well, at least until tomorrow! I guess #'s were down from previous years, but there were at least twice as many competitor's as there were at the 24 hour race in Temecula. Maybe cc will post some picture's, hmmm Cathy?
Thanks. Solos can't race without support. I couldn't have done it without the excellent support from mtnbikej and the rest of the gang at Switchback Cyclery. I've posted a few race photos here. A full race report is in the works.
Way to go Mario! I’m looking forward to your race report. The drama is usually good for a few laughs. I’ll bet it’s nice to win a race that you’re using for an easy training ride for La Ruta.
Pix Hey Jason, thanks for the accomodating me and my arm this weekend. I'll be sure to post some pix later tonight. (would have been up sooner, but you know, the arm and all...it's been soooo difficult letting everyone do everything for me:?: )
My teammate, BigDD and I took 2nd place in the 2-person category. We did 21 laps between the two of us. We lost to our friends (whom we shared an RV with), TRB and Koke. We were all flying our Geoladders jerseys. 110 miles, almost 11,000 calories....toughest thing I've ever done - and I love it, well, now that it's over. No serious mechanical issues or crashes. Worst part for me was sucking down all that dust. I've been hacking all week and my eyes have been killing me. Freezing at night up there. Great event. Yeah, it's expensive, but they really do a good job with that whole thing. I love that course.
Nice job Murmur! Don't get me wrong, that course was a blast, no complaints there..........ok, no more complaining!
I didn't take that as you complaining. Sounds like you guys had fun too. I got passed by Sho Air riders all day/night as well. Those jerseys were everywhere....and on very fast riders. Their 4 man team did 29 laps - a new record.
Nice write up. I guess I missed the part where you came in and told us your wrist was bothering you after your crash. mtnbikej
Sorry for taking so long to post these pix. My timing was off some too...One thing I tried to get was the Incycle banner in the photos, unfortunately the riders were past me by the time I took the pictures. I'll work on my photo skills before the next event. If you haven't been up to these camp grounds or trails you should make an effort to get up there, it is truely beautiful. I might be going up again next week to camp for 3 days (with a bike - Yah!)
