The day at Hurkey Creek today was very informational with the meeting of the Forestry personnel and the fire department with their proposal to do brush removal in the area. Simonmtb had posted a meeting about this happening today so my wife and i and Emicil and Gwench went along to give some support and of course get a ride in. So here are some of the pics of the day and the trail really needs some maintenance. With the 4th annual camp out coming up we should consider some trail work on that Friday the 9th earlier in the day so it will be safe for all the riders coming up. If you are going to be camping up there for the weekend and are going to be there early on the 9th please bring some tools, myself and Emicil will all ready be planing on doing some trail work that day. Thanks Richie Rich

Thanks again for supporting the trails yesterday and doing some maintenance, Rich. There was some trail work done today on the course and the Recovery Trail was worked on last week.
There will be ongoing maintenance over the next few weeks but I am not sure if it will all be done by the camp out, so your work is really appreciated.
Any downed trees on the course?

there were a few bushes in the way and we took 10 minutes to knock down a few branches, but looking forward to getting this trial back up to speed, there will need to be a few more hours worked to make this happen. If you are willing to help me maybe we can get a few riders out to help make this happen b4 the camp out on April 9,10,11. And for your question about trees down we did not see any but like i said there are a few bushes that could use a trim'n.

The rangers have maps and will give you directions to the trail head.
I just got back from a quick circuit of the 24 hour loop and some work has been done on Exfoliator.
There is also a work party arranged or friday afternoon.
I think there is also a plan to re-route the trails on the climb up to Rage in the Sage.
I hope ther is a bit more interest in trail work than there was in the recent meeting about trail status, otherwise there will be some HAB going on at the camp out:)

I think there will be more crashes on the down hill part than the HAB on the up hill.

True. I nearly came off a few times today on the downs. Some of those ruts are a little deep.
Maybe we should work on the down hill sections first:clap:.

    Hurkey Creek Conditions?

Has anyone rode Hurkey Creek since the last few rains? If so what is the weather, conditions, trails like? Is there still snow at the top of the climb? I know the altitude is pretty high and was planning on going tomorrow but don't want any big surprises.

I also tried to call the ranger station up there and I just get the answering machine. So STR is the next best option.
