I was thinking of doing a small race between friends, but I wasn't sure how we'd do the timing on it.

I've seen the SRC folks use stop watches, but not really certain what the method to the madness is. Anyone have suggestions?

If its small.... You and all of your friends start off on the same line, the first to get to the finish wins. No need to time....

But if you wanted to, each has a Garmin and clciks it done when crossing the finish line,.

No it will be like a super d thing, but it will also have stops along the way down. Each rider will have to pick up a hot dog, then a beer, then something else before they cross the finish line.

The garmin thing won't work, not everyone has them.

I dont know or have any ideas besides stop watch and cell phone to let the person at the bottom when they start. Or you could do like 5 minute intervault starts and just have one watch running.

Main reason i wanted to post was to say, that is an awesome race idea. And was woundering what the entrance fee was? A twelve pack maybe? Also where were you thinking of doing this?

With beer and hot dogs you should finish on a killer climb to make things interesting. Runners have a beer mile - http://www.beermile.com/.

Best way to do it would seem to be with intervals. First person has the watch (or Garmin). Intervals would have to be long enough to make sure the first person doesn't get passed. Last person would also need a watch to start people at the right time.
