Hello all. My name is Devin. Im 20 and live in the San Fernando Valley*wee*. Sherman Oaks area to be precise. I was always down with mountain biking, but I could just never afford a bike till about a year ago. Went and got a shiny new Cannondale Prophet and fell in love with the sport.

Over the last year I progressed quite a bit and kept trying to find other locals that I could ride with. Unfortunatly I just met a couple of the shaved legged, buy a new fork because it weighs 2 grams less, "I gotta get up this hill at least 6/10ths of a second faster this time", type riders. Dont get me wrong I love charging, but I dont like to make my hobbies feel like work. :p

Anywho I look forward to meeting alot of you and joining up on some rides. Take care!

    LOL ... :D

There are a few of us here that resemble that remark.

Well ... ok I might be the only one. :?: Sorry.

You got me thinking ... If I shave my legs will that get me up the hill 6/10ths of a second faster? Lycra hasn't helped so it must be the hairy legs. That's it, I'm gunna do it!

    Welcome

Hehe im loving the friendly attitude here. Every other forum ive posted with tends to be fairly negative. U know Blazer, west hills hit like 118* the other day. Not a bad thing that you moved. As far as local trails go, the Santa Monica mountains have some good terrain. Its surprising how far removed you can feel even though your like 10 minutes from hollywood. Fryman canyon has some great single track thats really close and good for an afternoon ride. When my endurance is up I like hitting up sullivan canyon though. Any reccomendations on good local rides?

Yeah prophets are bad ass bikes. And i dont know what others rock but I have 3 kickstands on mine. One for each side and then one that props the back wheel up like a scooter. I use that one when I really wanna show off all the angles. 8)

Definition of "Cleaning a Trail" - Revised

Welcome, and let me say...great bike. Have a Jekyll myself.

Once read an MTB post where these guys were counting dabs and clocking their times. I could tell they were very serious. To which this one brilliant poster asked, "If my head hits the ground, does it count as a dab?"

Here's my philosophy on cleaning a trail:

    1. You made it top to bottom in one piece and your bike still works. Par
    2. You left some skin and/or blood on the trail. +1
    3. You sprained/broke something. +2
    4. You had to be air-rescued out of the trail. +3

    I don't count dabs.

    Cheers.
