It seem like there shall be a simple solution to this, but there isn't. Just recently I purchased a wheel set for my new hardtail XC bike, Mavic Crossmax ST Disc Wheels, having installed plenty of Center Lock Disc Brake Rotors, I thought this would be easy to do with the regular Cassette installation tool.

The installation of the rear Center Lock Disc Brake Rotor when like clock work, no problems whatsoever. The front was another story, still struggling with a solution.

The Shimano Lockring fits snuggly over the hub insert, not allowing enough space to fit a regular Cassette installation tool in place, even one with super thin walls will not work.
I took it to my local bike shop off Grand Ave in Chino, no help, they didn't have a clue. Before I take it to JensonUSA, I'll might try addressing this problem on the forum.

Is there a special tool and or a method that can be used to install the Center Lock Disc Brake Rotors Lockring on the front tire of the Mavic Crossmax ST Disc Wheel?

The lockring used came with the rotor, it fits perfectly on and over the hub and can be hand tighten to a limit.

What other type of lockrings are available that can be tighten externally and still internal threads?

got a picture? it's hard to tell from your description, but it sounds like there's not enough room between the outside of the axle (I'm gonna guess a 20mm?), and the inside of the lockring splines.

if it is the 20mm (or 15mm, looking at the mavic site), see if the adapter can be pulled out or unscrewed from the hub. that would be my best guess for being able to fit the tool in there.

Bryguy17, you hit the nail right on the head. That can probably be my last resort, but that seem like a lot of trouble to go through to install a center-lock rotor. I am sure there is a better way,

A tool and or another type of Lockring.

The ring I am talking about is the same threading as the regular one but has larger opening and uses the same tool as BB instead of cassette tool. They use this for hubs using 15mm and 20mm axles.

It sounds like that type of ring shall work. My hub is interchangeable between a 9mm and 15mm.

Now the question will be "who has it available locally?".

Necropost, I know - but this thread showed up when I googled.
    I'm having a similar problem.

Just got XT wheels (standard QR) and a normal cassette lockring tool is not deep enough to go over the rear hub extension/axle. Front was totally easy, but I can only hand tighten the rear.
Anyone got a deep lockring tool - or should I just take it to a shop to torque?
Or, am I missing something on how it's done?
