Hey everyone, considering going up to Holy Jim tomorrow around noonish with some buddies, but last I heard, the trail was covered in brush once it opened up towards the switchbacks, anyone have any info? Is it rideable?

    Thanks

Dude don't bother. Unless you plan on bring some handsaws and gloves. Hiked up it today and there's at least 15-20 places where the trail is partially or totally blocked by bushes. The last 1.5 mile to Main Divide was the worst. I wouldn't want to try to drag a bike under, around and over all that thick brush.

MaryMary & I hiked HJ today. Switchback conditions were spectacular!! No mud at all and nice firm trail for the length we hiked.

    Took a folding brush saw.:-s

All the spots up until the 3.5 mile mark are cleared.
Ran outta time so didn't work any further than that.
Someone had already cleared the first 2.5 miles or so.

There is only one spot left on the route I hiked... kinda a low bridge but I thought it best to leave this to someone with more "official" tools:lol:.

Didn't see a soul on bikes until we were on our way down at noon.

Did alot of brush clearing on Holy Jim today. Please note there was a sh&tload of brush down due to recent storms. The trail is currently impassable to bikes from 1/8 mile above the rocky stream crossing above all the switchbacks to Main Divide. I have never seen anything like this.

The Warriors Society will again be out there tomorrow working to clear the upper section. We have reports that Trabuco and San Juan are also obstructed by many downed trees.

What's the weapon of choice for those types of situations? Folding saw? Cordless Sawzall? Loppers?

We were hiking our way down when you guys were riding up. You have your work cut out for you.

It was an awesome day up on the mountain so I can't wait to get back there next weekend.

Oh, and thanks for clearing the mess.

I was going to bring my machete, but decided not too. I regretted that decision.

I went to REI and bought a folding brush saw.
MaryMary & I cleared quite a bit on Saturday using just this.

I hear the upper section needs big boys' toys.

Thanks guys for trail work. To give you an idea how much damage was done, this is one of the trees in the ravine leading up to the Main Divide. It's not in the pic, but it broke a huge azz couple ton rock when it went down.

Also, not sure if you noticed the two idiots who were smoking cigarettes at about the two mile mark.

How freakin dumb can people be.

As we know Mark aka hoovermd cleared some brush Saturday. KWH and Bob M. aka Howls at the Moon cleared the trail all the way to the area were we shored it up with fencing Sunday. Today, 6 of us cleared it all the way to the Main Divide. Still some earth work needs to be done because users who got around the brush loosened the edges and is now in need of shoring up in some spots. #-oAs Carl aka Phod'Up pointed out, there is a very large tree that fell over just about before the steep HAB up to the Main Divide that will need to be addressed. Here are some pics.
