    Why in the world would he get back on the MTB without pads after the initial crash? Then he has two more without pads? It makes absolutely no sense to me, but it's his leg. Hope he feels better soon.

    the knee is the worst place to have a wound, cuz the scab peels and breaks when you move around. takes so long for it to heal right. hope he gets well soon.

    get some 661 veggie knees and call it done man. Even if you're an xc racer you can at least wear that to train.

    Here is my regimen:

    First, keep the lags shaven. This makes wound care simpler AND impresses da wimmen!

    On the trail:

    Hibistat wipes. 6 hour residual germ killing

    In the car:
    Scrub with 70% alcohol
    Follow with Hibistat

    At home:

    Day 1:
    smear on somethign like Neosporin
    Cover with non stick bandage
    On top of that use a gauze sponge 'cuz this sucker is gonna be leaky for a while

    Day 2:
    Clean up again using the alcohol. Get some of the drinking version too bucause this will hurt.
    Now, find some flavor of a bioclusive bandage like Tegaderm (I have some 8"x10" ones form J&J)

    Here is the trick that nobosdy tells you...
    Since these are really waterproof, all the goo form the wound will fill up and make the bandage like a blister. Then eventually it will leak. Yuk! so, what you do is provide a channel for the goo and place a gauze sponge there. Now, take a q-tip with some Neosporin on it and draw a line form the edge of the wound to the outside of the bandage.

    *****
    *******
    *****
    *||**
    ||
    || <- neosporin line

    Now place the clear bandage (Tegaderm) over the area and tape a gauze sponge below

    --------------
    | ***** |
    | ******* |
    | ***** |
    | *||** |
    ------||--------
    XXXXXXXXXXX
    XXXXXXXXXXX
    XXXXXXXXXXX <-- gauze
    XXXXXXXXXXX

    Now you simply leave the dressing on for about 4 days and you can change the gauze whenever necessary.

    At the end of 4 days, do a similar thing but I use some really gcool stuff called Vigilon under the bandage for the next 10 days or so. It is expensive but really reduces the scarring.
