Ya I remember you! I didn't know you were into mountain biking. We should get together sometime. M3's are sick man!
Yea we should hit up a trail. I started riding 2-3 years ago. i have Ironhorse Yakuza Aniki, that I got from Performance too.
:welcome: from Irvine! We have a small group that rides most weekends on the trails you mentioned-- will Ping you on our next ride.
Locals Group http://www.socaltrailriders.org/forum/groups/irvine-locals.html Here is a good start, we can always change it to secret but for now is wide open...
Somewhat Correct. Going through Shady Canyon via the bike path out to Culver and Bonita Canyon, then up Newport Coast to Ridgepark; or down the 133 to the Nix Center is the currently the non-docent led access from Quail Hill to LCWP and El Moro. Using any of the trails in the Irvine Open Space Preserve South (with the exception of the Quail Hill Loop Trail) requires a Docent Program or the Wilderness Access Day to ride there. That will be changing however in the future. Currently Serrano Ridge is open to self-guided, seven day access (daytime only) from the 73 undercrossing to a point just past the Little Sycamore Hiking Trail. However in a few weeks once we can get signs and a revised gate in place; Serrano Ridge will open up all the way back to the Nix Nature Center via a link to the Stagecoach North Trail in LCWP. The next area (again once some infrastructure improvements take place) will be the Quail Trail from the Quail Hill Trail Head up to Serrano Ridge. Once that take place, someone can ride from the Quail Hill Trail head up to Serrano Ridge, and take Serrano Ridge all the way to the 73 undercrossing daily from 7:00 am to Sunset to link all the way to El Moro. I'll keep everyone posted when that opening gets close. Beyond that, the Single-Tracks all leading down into Shady Caynon and Bommer Canyon will remain Docent Led due to the restoration taking place in those areas......(ie...Cattle Crest, Rabbit Run, Fox Run, Shady Oaks, Hogback Ridge, Ridge Route, and East Fork). On that note......if anyone has any weekday free time and would like to help us install the signs and gates to open up Serrano Ridge....Chopper and I will always accept strong bodies to help us with the 250 lb posts We always welcome public participation in all of our ongoing trail projects. We're currently putting the finishing touches on a three mile trail in the North Irvine area that in itself is pretty nice, but on the bigger picture opens up the area to some long rides starting from a new staging area we are getting getting ready. I already tested out a nice 25 mile loop from that area). Anyone interested in helping out, feel free to shoot me an e-mail to [email protected] or pm me anytime. Hope this helps! Add: One nice option for everyone are the Wilderness Access Days that currently take place one per month where people can simply check in at the Bommer Canyon Trail Head, obtain a "Day Use Permit", and ride the Irvine Open Space Trails to their hearts content for the day. The next access day is coming up on the 22nd of this month.
Thanks for the excellent heads-up JamR! I don't have much weekday free time since I work 7-5, but I am able bodied and willing to volunteer on the weekends! I haven't done trail work since I was like 15, haha.
Thanks for the clarification, feel free to post when you want to recruit some slave, I mean volunteer labor:lol:. I love lending a hand out here and will pitch in as soon as I move to get this place opened up. As far as north Irvine I know exactly where you mean and am very glad to have you guys getting things going out there. See you on freeks.
