I just had a guy walk into my office last week looking for that position, he had the pocket protector and everything. Unfortunately I only need unskilled workers these days...

Anyone around ventura county area who's into some serious flash actionscript programming? The flash project is pretty advanced and we are looking for an "Expert" on the field. This is only a short time opportunity (we estimate about 2 days of work) but the project is a potential for future work.

Anybody who's ever taken an online application has come across a personality test in the application. That personality test is made by an Indian company called Unicru. Basically the Unicru assessment is a required part of many online applications and it is designed with the intent to single out the “ideal corporate worker.” Unfortunately for us people who are normal, not to mention those who are the least bit different, this test has become an unfair entry barrier which discriminates against people who are otherwise hard workers for having “flaws” that would make them poor candidates for a “corporate environment".

However, the biggest problem with the Unicru assement is the fact that the test doesn’t discriminate on accident and it is not a collateral effect. No, this test was designed with sheer sadism in mind. The test too could be seen as a invasion of one’s own personal life as many of the questions are about topics which have nothing to do with work such as:
“It is maddening when the court lets guilty criminals go free”
“You have no big regret about your past”
    “You like to be alone”
The fact that ANY company could ever post a questionnaire of that sort and make passing it a requirement for the rest of your application to even be seen by a manager is absurd and dehumanizing.

Passing the personality test is pretty easy, once you know how to answer the questions. Each question only has one answer because the answers will either always be “Strongly Disagree” or “Strongly Agree” and never “Disagree” or “Agree.” The logic behind this is the test seeks to pass applicants who are unwavering in the qualities being assessed. So if your truthful and answer a question with agree or disagree then you just got that question wrong.

Here is the answer key to the Unicru personality test. I hope it helps someone here. If I knew about the answer key sooner I wouldn't have wasted so much time filling out online applications that no one was ever going to look at.

    Jobs....

I normally don't do this but I'm at the end of the line...

    Not trying to whine either....

I been out of work since June '09 and applied at about every place I can imagine and it seems NO ONE responds. My UE is going to run out soon and my cash reserves are shrinking fast and what I need help/suggestions with is:

Did you find a job recently and how/where did you find it??
    Is your company hiring??
Do you know a company hiring??
Did you go through a temp agency?? Which??

I'm hitting a wall trying to find new places to apply at/to and just looking for suggestions that I might have missed.

    Thanks.

This is just a thought and NOT a criticism, but since you montioned no one is responding, have you conisdered it may be the presentation of your resume? Most employers, including myself, will only glance at the first few lines of the resume, and determine if we want to read any further. A well prepared resume is pinnacle.

I'm willing to help review it, although I'm not hiring at the time.

You might want to check out Bechtel Nevada, they have quite a few locations in SoCal and just about everywhere else. I'm not sure what type of engineer you are, but I'm sure that they have positions open in that feild. GOOD LUCK IN YOUR SEARCH! I hope you find something soon.

I was a Draftsman doing CAD and 3D modeling of equipment and piping while being trained as a Piping Engineer and unfortunately that training got cut short by the economy.

I know most employers throw up a red flag when you list a large gap of time with no work listed on your resume (e.g. the last time you worked to the present date). Maybe you may have to, um, well, you know, um COUGH-lie-COUGH. Just cover your bases. Per your question, perhaps you can have someone that specializes in writing resumes to review yours and revise it. Its tough out there. I know people with college degrees that haven't found work for over a year and others with degrees earning $12 an hour with massive student loans.
