Does he really need a mechanic? Sure the top teams have them but tons of Kiwi's self-finance WC race trips to Europe and work on their own bike.

You're kidding, right? Sounds like he needs to get a real J O B and pay for it himself. Do people have no integrity anymore?

Let's see you work a real job an ride at that level. Fat chance! What a difference in the attitude on here and the attitude on a DH specific site. Just wow. Just confirms some of the stereo types about certain types of mt bikers. Sad really.

Kinda in proraptor's situation right now, but I wish this kid the best of luck raining the funds to get there!

I admire their approach in being totally upfront about what they need the money for, and why.

A lot of these riders have jobs, just not the kind of job that allows them to travel all over the us to race then have enought money laying around to make it World Championships.

The Canadian Women's DH team was doing a fundraiser for this exact same reason, and one that needs help is the Canadian National Champion and just won 2 of the Crankwork DH events.

Unless your the best of the best you don't get the money to fund this kind of travel.

I know a kid from New Zealand who worked, trained and lived amazingly frugally to support his racing. He raced at the Windham WC in 2011. Unfortunately in his qualifying run he flated but was on pace to qualify. When I met him he was looking for a ride from LA to Sea Otter. He didn't ask for any hand outs he kicked in his fair share of gas money.

It can be done, he had numerous friends do the same thing. Work and train all winter and spend the summer in Europe racing leaving in their $1000 cars they would buy.

Just seems odd to ask for handouts especially budgeting for a mechanic. When Mik Hannah raced for Haro he didn't have a mechanic.

Best of luck to Art but asking for handouts is great, just don't be surprised when people chime in with comments like mine.

After reading their plea, I find that they really don't want to go bad enough.

I think the real problem is he rides for OG. A small company. IF he rode for trek or spesh this wouldn't be an issue. Oh well I made my donation and I feel good about it. Whatever floats your boat. But I will say this. The difference in the direction of the thread here versus other sites is amazing. Speaks volumes of the type of comPany in here.

    Challenge accepted!

Ive seen Art allot of places over the past year.....He's tagged along with me and my friends at some lift assisted places this summer. I don't see myself much slower if at all in all honesty. If that is "7th ranked in the US" speed then maybe i should keep my full time job, look for some support and plan my vacations carefully around the race season and see how far i get ON MY OWN. jK i have zero interest in a racing career...riding bikes with friends beats any race day hands down!

True a mechanic is unnecessary if you have skills, and anyone who rides as much as he should posses any mechanic skill needed to dial in a bike for a DH course.

I wish him luck though in getting to Norway, and hope he gets a good result if he makes it.
