The concern I have with buying Italian bikes is that if you break the frame, they have to send it to Italy for repairs... I ride a Madone 5.2 and love it. It's comfy for 100 mile days and plenty fast. The only thing I upgraded when I bought it was the wheels to Race X lites. As a mountain biker at heart I'm not too gentle with the bike and haven't had to true wheels in the 2 years I've been riding it. Not sure what your budget is, but these guys have good deals and will fit you to your bike before you leave the store. Specialized also makes comparably good bikes. I would go with the Tarmac as it is a little more race oriented than the Robaix. http://treksandiego.com/product/trek-madone-6.9-pro-da-with-race-xlite-aero-aluminum-wheels-3486.htm
Two years ago, it had been raining for some time and I was soooo anxious to ride my Yeti, but still things were too muddy. I stopped at Jensons in Corona to pick up some inner tubes, saw an entry level Colnago on sale for $1600 (retail $3K), and thought it would be a fun distraction for when I can't mt bike. I quickly got addicted to the road, and found it is a great compliment to mtb for training. After 2 months, I wish I had bought a better bike so I bought a high end Colnago frame on EBay, transfered the components of the first bike to the new frame, and sold the original frame on EBay for $1300! If you're serious about bikes , it sounds lilke you are, and you have the means, I would recommend getting the best you can afford as you won't regret it!
I've got an '06 Roubaix Pro. But this looks HOT. http://www.moots.com/#/product/bicycles/road_+_speciality/vamoots_rsl/
What size bike are you looking for? I've got a Cannondale Synapse 56cm if you want to give it a test ride. Plus I'm really close to Ladera
Just an FYI, that Colnago is made in Taiwan by C-Tech, Giants carbon division, so you are not really pay for old world craftsmanship. In fact the Only carbon Colnagos made in Italy are the EPS and the Cross Prestige.
What about a Ridley? http://www.competitivecyclist.com/road-bikes/frame/2010-ridley-damocles-6039.html
Anyone riding a Pinarello? Bike of the day - Prince Carbon B.o.B. =P~ I thought it was 54, since riding a 52 felt a bit cramped and a 54 felt much better but have since been told a 52 properly fitted would be better for me. We'll see during a proper fitting I suppose. I'm about 5'8" with a 30in inseam. 56 would be to big I think, but thanks for the offer. Doesn't bother me so much, I know lots of carbon mt bikes are coming out of Taiwan as well, don't know what factory though. Thanks. I haven't seen these yet, but the Noah looks bada$$. Thanks.
Very HOTT! (yes, two t's) I haven't seen these yet, but the Noah looks bada$$. Thanks.[/quote] Isn't is?! So sexy! That frameset is ridiculously expensive though. Hope you have the opportunity to check one out if makes the first cut! Have fun with the buy!
Torelli makes a sick sick bike. You can build one of these at 14 pounds very easy. http://www.torelli.com/frames/torelli/carbon/montefalco.html Franco is a new kid on the block and also makes a great frame. I know some of the Factory team riders and they can't say enough about them. http://www.francobicycles.com/ Talk to Trevor at MetalMTN http://metalmtncycling.com/bikeshop/ Check out his list of builds. He has a long list of very satisfied customers.

Nooner Road Ride Hey riders! Mountain bikers who have real speed often develop it from doing some sort of road training on a road bike. I don't know of any other noon road ride in So Cal so this may be the first! Every Wednesday is the Lunch Rush ride. It's 16 laps of a 1.2 mile course with no stop signs or traffic lights and very few cars! The speed limit in fact is 25 mph and we actually average about that the entire ride. The location is at the Cabrillo Beach Marina in San Pedro (22nd and Via Cabrillo Marina) Here's a link to the club that started it but others are welcome. http://www.peninsulacc.org/rides.htm If you get dropped, there's shortcuts available to jump back in again since its an out and back loop! Those who may work dayshifts in the area, bring your bike to work on Wednesdays and sneak out for a lunch workout! Here's the Marina location: http://www.cymcabrillo.com/location.html
Have you considered the Kestrel Talon? Has Dual position seatpost for time trial/tri position. Had recent favorable reviews in Bicycling Mag. http://www.kestrelbicycles.com/Road/Talon-Road---Shimano-105.aspx
Rodel, I know you had just started looking when you came in the other day, but maybe take a few minutes to talk to us about your options. We are custom building a BMC Pro Machine with SRAM Red in Huntington Beach now, we've already custom built a BMC Team Machine in Costa Mesa, plus we have Specialized (as you know) and Cervelo in both locations as well. Let me know if we can help. Sean. Surf City Cyclery www.surfcitycyclery.com

Famous last Words! "Not looking to race, but more endurance training for mt biking, I could certainly use more endurance". Make sure you buy some ass butter. It'll help till you get used to the seat! Get a fit done ASAP. Shave your legs. It looks great on a guy. It is not gay and it is the sign of a smart roadie. AKA Not a poser! Learn to look over your shoulder to look for cars without changing your line...too much! Please God! Don't let him wear baggies on the bike! Always carry a few bucks, and some food. Welcome to the dar....other fun side of cycling!!
riding on the road ruined my year... :?: mostly just messing around... #-o for training purposes riding on the road is great. we train mostly on the road (probably 70%+)
