    "He has Risen indeed!" :)

Just want to wish everyone a blessed Easter. God bless you all.:)

Now for a little trivia... Where does the statement, "He has risen." and the response, "He has risen indeed." stem from? and what was the purpose of stating this to another in the past?

And similarly, where does the symbol of the Christian fish come from? and what was the purpose?

First one to answer both wins... Nothing!!

For those who know me I'm definitely not a wholesome Christian kid and I cuss like a sailor but I have had a lot of theology rammed down my throat over the years.

This is a Mountain biking forum and you tread on risky water by discussing religion but I'll put this in more contemporary terms. Maybe offensive to some but whatever.

The fish symbol probably comes from the original verse where christ says to a group of the original 12 apostles at the sea of Galilee, "I will make you fishers of men." Sounds like he's trying to turn them gay, but whatever.

The ancient Romans used to persecute the early christian church so instead of asking, "hey bro, are you christian?", they would just drawn the jesus fish symbol in the dirt as kind of an ancient secret gang sign or graffiti that they were, "followers of the way." Others knew what the symbol meant would chit chat about Christianity. If not, people would just look at them and say, "what the F__ck are you talking about," and go about their business rather than turning them into the Roman authorities for being Christian.

Secondly, the "he has risen indeed" statement probably comes from Luke 24 where Jesus christo appears to the 12 apostles who are scared sh!tless of the Romans after their leader was executed. Then the bearded one appears with the disciples as has lunch or dinner then they realize it was him and "holy sh!t, dead man walking."

I would have said it differently:lol: but yes. They also uttered the phrase to each other as a way of identifying fellow believers.

I thought that it was a fish symbol because the word ICHTHUS in Greek means "fish" and the word is supposed to be an acrostic:
    I (iota)= Iesou (Jesus)
    CH (chi) = Christou (Christ)
    TH (theta) = Theou (God)
    U (upsilon) = (h)Uios (Son) - "h" is a punctuation mark in Greek
    S (sigma) = Soter (Savior)

Two years of Greek and Hebrew in seminary and that's all I remember!

I was actually under the impression that followers of christ would draw an arc in the dirt (sand, parchment, whatever) and the responder would draw a second arc making the "fish" symbol and thus proving they were in the know and not a Roman spy.

I could be wrong though as I haven't set foot on holy ground since Reagan was in office...the first time.

We got all types on STR from Southern Baptist Bible Thumpers, to Full-Blown Atheists. The good news is we all have one thing in common: We all love mountain biking and (for the most part) each other. I'm a believer. Some of my best friends on STR are most certainly not. I love the fact that we can be respectful of each other on this forum. Let's keep it that way. As long as no one tells me I'm full of $4it, I won't tell anyone they're going to burn in H3ll :p :D :p :D

    Blessings.

    Happy Easter to everyone!

Easter sure seems different at the River. We just finished up an Easter egg hunt with the eggs hidden in jet skis, see doos, boats and trailers. The kids had a great time.

I am a believer and for me this is a day to recognize the ressurection of my savior. The phrase He is risen indeed was a way for others to recognize each other as pastor Chuck pointed out this morning. So happy easter to all and have a very blessed day!!

Let's not forget, for those who serve you food, better get it straight or the wrath of Stinky will be upon you. "I said no effin cheese and lettuce & tomato only!!!" Wow, you get fired-up pretty easily. Remind me not to piss you off.

Back on topic and with all do respect, this is a mountain biking site. Please keep religion out of it. Makes life and co-existence with one another so much easier.

This IS an mtb site, that's why his comments are in the pub. Making a comment about what this day represents surely doesn't deserve trash talking and vulgarity. The whole world stops on this day to pause and reflect about "Easter" regardless of their belief. Enjoy the day and what it means to you. For those of us that are believers, amen and He is risen indeed! Now get out and ride!

Sorry but where is this so called "trash talking" & "vulgarity" that you speak of? I'm a little dumb-founded by your comment.
