if only that were true...I have demo'd a $9000 spec epic and I was faster and just as comfortable(if not more) on my singlespeed hardtail which weighs 3 lbs more.

Money is no option...I still go hardtail. I have yet to find a FS bike that does the job for me to switch...hell I havent even found a 3-4" cross country bike that I can get the sag set on properly! FS bike are pretty badass just not for me.

    2 things I say often...
"all girls I know like hard dick" and "when I grow a vagina I will own a fs mountain bike" and even if the latter ever occurs it will not be my main ride.

    Some ol' cheapie bike

Just finished it, the frame is one of the cheapest parts. It was $1400 and weighs under 25lbs. I only ride it when i want to go up and down hills really fast for long distances.

    Uf. Ya.

    For me:

    1. They demand better handling skills from their riders.
    2. They climb like the wind.
    3. The feel of the trail.
    4. Minimal knob-twiddling and maintenance.
    5. They remind me of "more funner" times in MTBing.

I love FS. But I love HT's more often.

Admittedly, since I moved here, I haven't ridden much of either. But soon!

that is the most idiotic thing i have ever read. I guarantee you my cheap (nearly $3000) hardtail will make it up hill and downhill faster with my novice ass than anything you own, and id put money on that.
    With only 1 gear too.
And no i'm not usually this cocky but sometimes people need to be put in their place\\:D/

Have a Cannondale F4 that's treated me well over the many years I've had it.

I still ride the "Silver and Black" Specialized HR Comp. I've customized it with upgraded components since I bought it and love riding it. I've tried to ride the squishies and keep going back to the HT. I guess eventually I'll get one for certain types of runs.

    Bummer....

Although I dearly love my Curtlo 29er SS, when I ride it I find my back complains a lot more the next day. The 5.5 or the Blur XC definitely "feels" a lot better on it. I am seriously now considering selling it... just so I won't be tempted to ride it.

It's a bitch getting old, grasshoppers!

Still have my 1993 trek 970 steel hardtail. Rode that thing a few thousand miles in the dirt, I'm sure.

The only original components are the fr der, headset and crank arms. The trek's retirement job is to cruise down the strand at the beach, sometimes pulling my kids in a trailer.

Recently ordered a HT 29'er to compliment my two FS rigs.

i like a good squishy bike from time to time but there are times; and it's usually in a middle of climb where i wish i had the acceleration of a HT. I'm also spoiled by my road bike where your input of power translates almost instantly into forward movement. so when i hit dirt and ride my FS i'm almost always left wondering what happened when i push down on the gas pedal.

Here's what i'm wanting 2010 Stumpjumper Comp HT in CF
