    I've been riding in the middle of wilderness, not hearing a sound and lost in my thoughts.... then out of no where, and seemingly right next to my ear, I hear "on your left". My reaction at this point is one of panic and instinct. I've inadvertently done this to hikers and other bikers too.

    I like to assume people are generally good natured and Isn't it possible that you're startling people and not a matter of right or left?
