Its ok, Jose's kind of a "special" cyclist, he forgets where bikes came from.....they actually were not invented in Marin county by whoever claims they invented the mountain bike:lol: Lemond used to join our sunday am rides back in Minneapolis, even though he's a bit older he could still hammer and his stories of the "good old days" were fantastic!:bang:
You're not serious are you? You know, used to ride for La Vie Claire with Bernard Hinault. Got shot with a shotgun but came back to with the Tour de France. I believe he beat out Lauren Fignon 2 years in a row on the last day of racing by destroying him in the individual time trial. First to use aerobars in the tour. You'll like this Jose, he's famous for eating mexican food and ice cream as part of his diet.
Shot by his own brother, how does that happen?, beat Fignon by 8 seconds on the last day of the tour, gave up a victory for Bernard who later refused to help him when it was his turn to lead the squad and did love ice cream - Dairy Queen- and burritos!:bang:
I can digg the mexi food with Ice cream but still dont know who daaa doood izz!!#-o I dont follow roadies much!! Never have and prob never will. I just dont follow much period ha ha:bang:
Okay then, I'm going to drag Ashlie out there. See you there! Jose, have you heard of LeMond bikes? That's Greg LeMond! He rides bikes n stuff, he's even won a few little races 'round town.
Who is Greg LeMond... In my opinion Greg LeMond is the best American cyclist ever. He won the TDF 3 times (twice after being shot in the chest with a shotgun). First American to win TDF (even with his own team working against him). First American to win a Pro World Championship. First American to win an under 23 World Championship. Greg's VO2 Max = 92.5, Lance Armstrong's VO2 Max = 85. Greg LeMond still holds the record for the fastest average speed in any TDF time trial (33.9 miles per hour, Lance holds the 2nd fastest record) Greg's 1989 TDF win (in the final stage) is one of the greatest sports moments of all time. or just check this out... I have a LeMond road bike, Jose. Ya know ... the bike you make fun of. Damn ... wish I could make it ... let us know how it goes.
Greg has been known to tip a few to many lately and can become quite obnoxious to say the least. He was a great athlete. And one I'll always respect for his abilities, I just wish he'd keep his mouth shut when it comes to other people. Why do athletes, actors, singers, etc, try to impress their views on us? If he's talking bikes, and or stories from the past, I'd love to go, but the last couple times I've been to see him all I got was some political ranting and talk about how bad cycling is today. Jose, there's been over a million spectators lining the roads up north....I wonder how many came to watch all the mountain bike races in the world? Don't get me wrong, I'm a mtb'er first, but you got to admit those are some impressive numbers.
He was a class act tonight. Seemed reluctant to talk about the ills of todays cycling but if pressed he isn't afraid to tell the truth about what he believes.
Before Lance, Greg was the greatest American Road Cyclist (I put John Tomac as the greatest cyclist in my book). He won a few Tour de France's, blah blah blah, what they all said above me. However, Lance got to hit Sheryl Crow, Scoreboard!
