One of the many great things about STR is some of the GREAT quotes I see! So, please feel free to post some of your faves. They do not need to be bike related, but wise, pithy, and or humorous are a plus! They can be anything... even 'bloopers' by fellow STRs. Out of prudence, let's try to avoid religion and politics. here's a few: "There is little that can withstand a man who can conquer himself" Louis XIV "People do not lack strength; they lack will" Victor Hugo "You can get much further with a kind word and a gun, than you can with a kind word alone" Al Capone
"Smoking kills. If you're killed, you've lost a very important part of your life." - Brooke Shields "I haven't committed a crime. What I did was fail to comply with the law." - David Dinkins, NYC mayor
Henry Rollins has some greatest quotes I have ever heard. "Go without a coat when it's cold; find out what cold is. Go hungry; keep your existence lean. Wear away the fat, get down to the lean tissue and see what it's all about. The only time you define your character is when you go without. In times of hardship, you find out what you're made of and what you're capable of. If you're never tested, you'll never define your character." "Half of life is f--king up - the other half is dealing with it." "Basically, men are afraid of women and can't handle the fact that they came out of the same thing they spend the rest of their lives trying to get back into."
i just updated my sig with a new one that i like very much. for those of you that do not know who conrad stoltz is, he is a big dude they call the caveman and he broke his back while descending from the flume trail in the xterra usa championship race. he has since returned to xterra and is completely dominating the circuit. this guy charges harder then anyone i have ever seen.
My personal favorite "it's not about dying for your country; its about making the other mother****er die for his" Goerge S Patton sorry for the language you have to write it exact inside of quotes.
A friend from high school and I always like this one: "When a true genius appears in the world, you may know him by this sign, that the dunces are all in confederacy against him." - Jonathan Swift
Some of my favorites: "There is more to life than increasing its speed." - Mohandas K. Ghandi "The true secret of giving advice is, after you have honestly given it, to be perfectly indifferent whether it is taken or not and never persist in trying to set people right." - Hannah Whitall Smith "Too many people are ready to carry the stool when the piano needs to be moved." - Anonymous "If you are patient in one moment of anger, you will escape a hundred days of sorrow." - Chinese Proverb "Let me never fall into the vulgar mistake of dreaming that I am persecuted whenever I am contradicted." - Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803 - 1882) "Facts do not cease to exist because they are ignored." - Aldous Huxley
You can't be a real country unless you have a beer and an airline - it helps if you have some kind of a football team, or some nuclear weapons, but at the very least you need a beer. -Frank zappa
"If you come to a fork in the road, take it." Yogi Berra "One man with courage is a majority." Thomas Jefferson (I think) "You should treat those you truly care about with unlimited love, and treat all others with equally unlimited cruelty." I think is how it goes.
Here some humorous money ones: "What's the use of happiness? It can't buy you money." -Henny Youngman "If women didn't exist, all the money in the world would have not meaning." -Aristotle Onassis "Whoever said money can't buy happiness simply didn't know where to go shopping." -Bo Derek
Ok one Big Lebowski reference for El Dooder: Sam Elliott: "Do you have to use so many cuss words?" The Dude: "What the f*** are you talking about?" Bike related (besides my 2 sig quotes): "Melancholy is incompatible with bicycling." - James E. Starrs "Nothing compares to the simple pleasure of a bike ride." - John F. Kennedy "When I see an adult on a bicycle, I do not despair for the future of the human race." - H.G. Wells "Cycle (single)tracks will abound in Utopia. ~H.G. Wells (edited by G-Ride) "Consider a man riding a bicycle. Whoever he is, we can say three things about him. We know he got on the bicycle and started to move. We know that at some point he will stop and get off. Most important of all, we know that if at any point between the beginning and the end of his journey he stops moving and does not get off the bicycle he will fall off it. That is a metaphor for the journey through life of any living thing, and I think of any society of living things." - William Golding
