While I would consider myself an advanced trail rider, my jump skills leave much to be desired.

I'm looking for some place that offers a variety of jumps so I can get more comfortable with my wheels off the ground. I have been to turnbull and done some of the jumps there but wondered if there were any other good spots. Any suggestions welcomed.

The foundation of jumping skills is on a BMX bike, that said start on smaller ledges and loading docks till you learn to hop and can progress to stair sets and skate parks. Dirt jumps can lead to serious air and equally serious injuries so working on fundamentals is vital before you attempt any tricks.

There are a wealth of spots in my neck of the woods and I'll soon host another "basics" clinic to help people out with weight transfer, manual/wheelies, and bunnyhops. Next step up from there is sweet wooden parks like morning ride on El Toro, or cement ones like Fully (small for MTB) and Etnies (No MTB's allowed. While there is also some great stuff in downtown Santa Ana I would avoid the bust during the week and most of the banks till you learn to land gracefully.;)

Meantime stick to the street or drop by Morning ride so my good friend John can give you a tutorial (he may even let you try his bike).

Here is a link to a video I first watched about a decade ago that will get you rolling in the right direction, the big guy is Rob-O who has since started Fit bikes and still shreds locally like he did when I was a grom.

    Happy landings.

Turnbull canyon has jumps, down rattle snake and the ridge trails. Kenter also has alot of jumps from table tops to judge doubles but that trail is far but well worth it.

Yeah I've ridden turnbull several times and seen the jumps (or at least some of them), I just wondered what else might be around.

It seems like I have heard of a place called Weber that might have some hits too.

the ones up by the water tower? Last time I went down that way it was pretty overgrown and it didn't look like there was much left. But then again that was a while ago.

Would you be willing to disclose said location? On the few trails I've been on there, I haven't seen anything like that.

oh ok, i know exactly where your talking about. these are totally different jumps that lasted the test of times. mainly because its in-accesable to machinery and very hidden from the main trails.

A new BMX track is or has already opened in Whittier... thats the best and safest place you can learn the basics of jumping. When BMXers show up at dirt jumps they flow like no one else.

Those in the video are not the ones off of the water tower. I just checked out the ones in the video on Friday and they have been neglected, the trail getting to them is way overgrown and pretty much not rideable back into the canyon.

They sure do! Get out there and ride. It will be a learning experience for sure.

Wait until you see the little kids riding like mini pros. it's inspiring to see the bike handling skills BMX racers posses.

Now I know the fully jumps for the most part blow! but they are a couple that you can still hit and one is a table top. Gonna take some water down and a shovel soon and do some repairs.

Or there is option two, go to a dirt jump spot and do what coach Boozer told me {Just hit it!} or just build somthing you are ok with, out of the way of the other jumps, and dont touch any existing ones unless its to help fix it.

    Good luck.

p.s jumping is easy its the landing that gets me
